MIT School of Distance Education (MITSDE), Kothrud (Dist. Pune) was established in 2005 and managed under MIT Group of Institutions which was established as a society and charitable trust in 1983.

MITSDE is the distance learning campus of Maharashtra Academy of Engineering and Educational Research (MAEER's) MIT, Pune.

It is one of the premier colleges established to impart & provide in the field of higher education for the deserving candidates and prove to be a milestone in their part of progress.

The college is affiliated with self - Maharashtra Institute of Technology (MIT), Pune and it is recognized by the University Grants Commission (UGC) under section 2(f) & 12(B) under Act, 1956.

It is also recognized and approved by All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), New Delhi and  Distance Education Bureau (DEB), New Delhi.

The focus is to establish quality-study centers and attach them to learning centres within educational institutions: schools, colleges and other focused education providers. The course is designed to meet the needs of the industry to help create and enhance employment and livelihood opportunities.

The MIT Group of Institutions has been established numbers of colleges/schools for the student in the region of Maharashtra and all over the India.

The trust started with more than 10 campuses in the state of Maharashtra provides education in the fields of Engineering, Medicine, Pharmacy, Marine Engineering, Insurance, Distance Education, Telecom Management, Lighting, Design, Food & Technology, Retail Management, and Masters in Business Administration, School of Government and also School Education, Arts, Commerce and Science.

MITSDE offers one year of Diploma, one year & two years of Post Graduate Diploma courses in the fields such as Marketing Management, Finance, HR, Operations, Information Technology, Supply Chain Management, Risk and Insurance Management, Fire and Safety Management, Retail Management, Material Management and more.

The college provides study material, prospectus, notes of the faculty, conducting some monthly basis classes in the campus and sending the updates about the exams and result.

For the exams, the college allows no. of various centers for the student from all over the country, providing university membership facilities to the students.

The college is also the member of International Council for Open and Distance Education (ICDE).
