Miranda House, New Delhi was established on 7th March 1948, by Sir Maurice Gwyer, the university vice-chancellor. It is a constituent college of the University of Delhi.

Considered as one of the premier colleges of Delhi, Miranda House was established to provide higher education to worthy candidates and prove to be a landmark in the years ahead.

The college is affiliated to the University of Delhi, New Delhi. It was also recognized by the University Grants Commission (UGC) under section 2(f) & 12(B) on 1st January 1956 under the UGC Act, 1956. The National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE), Jaipur has also recognised to offer a four years B.El.Ed. course.

Miranda House has also been approved by the All India Council for Techincal Course (AICTE), New Delhi. It has also been accredited by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) with "A+" Grade (CGPA score 3.61 on a 4 point scale in the 1st cycle) on 2nd May 2017.

Miranda House is a women's government college. It is located in the urban part of Delhi. It is a grant-in-aid college and hence the fees and all the facilities that are to be provided to the students is decided by the government.

On 7th March 1948, Lady Edwina Mountbatten laid the foundation stone of the college. The college is built of red bricks. Walter Sykes George was the architect of the college and it is similar to other educational centres in India that were established in the colonial era.

The students of this college and the alumni are known as Mirandians. Miranda House has received many recognitions in every field at the national, state and city level under the University of Delhi, New Delhi.

Miranda House was rated as the best college in India by the National Institutional Ranking Framework in 2017.

The Ministry of Science and Technology of India has awarded the college the 'Star College' status for the Department of Biotechnology.

It is ranked as one of the top colleges in India for the humanities and science streams.

It has more than 100 faculty members.

Under the University of Delhi, New Delhi, Miranda House provides graduate (three years) and undergraduate (two years) courses in the arts and science streams. The college also offers Ph.D. courses and add-on certificate courses.

Various exchange programmes with universities of foreign countries are conducted at the university. An International Languages School is also there that is responsible for providing certificate courses in European and Asian languages.

Unlike other colleges under Delhi University, Miranda House follows its own selection process. An online application process allows prospective candidates to fill in their academic achievements and interests. Only candidates who have registered with the University can apply for admission to the college.

To get admission to this college, candidates should take into account their percentage marks, i.e., best of four/PCB/PCM, whichever is applicable. They must make sure that the cut-off percentage that is declared by the College is adhered to in case of admission to different courses.

Various examinations are held at the college. These are the university exams of different courses and also exams conducted by the University of Delhi, New Delhi.
