Mahatma Gandhi Memorial College, Udupi was also known as MGM College, Udupi was established on 24th June 1949 was founded by the Padmashree awardee Late Dr. T.M.A. (Tonse Madhava Ananth) Pai, the architect of modern Manipal.

It is one of the premier colleges established to impart & provide in the field of higher education for the deserving candidates and prove to be a milestone in the part of progress.

The college is affiliated to Mangalore University, Mangaluru and recognized by the University Grants Commission (UGC) under section 2(f) & 12(B) on 26th July 1963 under Act, 1956.

It is re-accredited by National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) with "A" Grade - (CGPA Score 3.10 on a 4 Point Scale in 3rd Cycle) on 15th September 2016.

The Mahatma Gandhi Memorial College is vested in the Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Trust, a registered body, having full control over the affairs of the institution. It is appointed by the Academy of General Education, Manipal.

MGM College his dream child was visualized to bring education to the doors of the youth of Udupi and its neighboring towns. Until then, there were only two colleges in the then Dakshina Kannada District and both were situated in Manguluru.

That was six decades ago. Since then the college has witnessed phenomenal growth and expansion. The era of higher education in the district also ushered in an economic revolution

Hence the curriculum design, development, and its review come under the purview of the University. As far as the curriculum, number and combination of subjects, teaching hours, intake in each course etc. are concerned the guidelines of Mangalore University, to which this college is affiliated, are followed.

However, the teachers who are the Members of the Board of Studies of the University and Subject Associations are involved in the framing of the syllabus. The college offers 5 programs at the U.G.

level and one P.G. course in M.Sc. Computer Science.

The college staff members in the department of Botany, Zoology, History, English and Computer Science have designed the syllabus for these courses. In addition to these U.G.C. career oriented programs, the Department of Computer Science offers certificate courses like JAVA, VB Net, Web designing and Tally.

At present, the college offers two years intermediate courses in Arts, Science, & Commerce with optional specializations under the Department of Pre-University Education, Karnataka.

The college also offers three years undergraduate courses in Arts, Science, & Commerce streams with various optional specializations and offers two years post graduate course in Master of Science in Computer Science under Mangalore University, Mangaluru. It also offers Diploma, Certificate, & UGC Sponsored career oriented courses.

Apart from these courses, the college also has contact centre of Karnataka Open University, Mysuru to offers various B.A., B.Com., M.A., M.Com., Postgraduate Courses, & Certificate Courses.
