Manbhum Mahavidyalaya, Purulia was established in 1986. Its affiliated to University of Burdwan.

Manbhum Mahavidyalaya is one of the pioneer educational institutes in the southern part of the Purulia district of West Bengal, which is 53 K.M. from Purulia, the district Head Quarter, 330 K.M. from state capital Kolkata (erstwhile Calcutta) to inculcate value-based and principled education among the young population of a vast stretch of area. Nurturing students by a bunch of experienced, knowledge packed and energetic teachers is the strongest and the most valuable resource of Manbhum Mahavidyalaya.

Manbhum Mahavidyalaya stated its journey in a definite direction on 22.07.1986, with subjects, viz. Commerce, English, History, Bengali, and Political Science. Within a short spell of time, huge student pressure as well as demand for opening of newer subjects forced the then authority to expand the academic periphery of the college.

Manbhum Mahavidyalaya, initially affiliated to the University of Burdwan (1986) now it is affiliated under the Sidho-Kanho-Birsha University, Purulia, was established in 1986, with a view to extending academic knowledge, offering scope for higher education and all round development to its students especially amongst the relatively deprived and backward sections of the people of the district.

The college came into existence primarily as a result of the enterprise and responsibility undertaken by the local residents and social workers with lofty objectives. In 1985 the organizing committee of the proposed college and later, the Ad-hoc Governing Body of the college took massive efforts to realize their dream of a college, went on collecting donations from the people and succeeded remarkably. The college building came up and it was admirably supported by the Purulia Zilla Parishad, without whose repeated sanction of grants from the district plan the present college building would not have been possible.

The college provides platform to cultivate a strong community feeling amongst the students of different communities and this creates a bond of love, respect and fellow feelings.

With a mission to provide excellence in education at the undergraduate level to the students of all communities and especially to the financially backward students in the rural area of the state. The college has a good campus of 9.5 acres of land with enough infrastructural facilities. It is a grant-in-aid college and has U.G.C. recognition under section 2(f) and 12(B).

The college offers undergraduate courses in Arts, Science and commerce stream & the college is well equipped with all modern facilities.

Manbhum Mahavidyalaya is committed to providing excellence in education in Humanities, Commerce and Science faculties in the Under Graduate level to the students of all communities especially to those who are financially weak and socially backward.
