Mahila College, Chaibasa was established on 2nd October 1969. It is the only female institution of West Singhbhum district in Jharkhand state. Soon after the establishment, it was declared as deficit Grant College in 1970 by the state government.
It is one of the premier institutions established to impart & provide in the field of higher education for the deserving candidates and prove to be a milestone in the part of progress.
It has been converted into a constituent unit of Ranchi University, Ranchi in 1980; and at present, it is a constituent unit of Kolhan University, Chaibasa.
The college is presently affiliated with Kolhan University, Chaibasa and recognized by the University Grants Commission (UGC) under section 2(f) on 31st October 1987 & 12(B) on 1st October 1984 under Act, 1956.
It is re-accredited by National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) with "B" Grade - (CGPA Score 2.14 on a 4 Point Scale in 2nd Cycle) on 22nd February 2017.
The college is recognized & approved by National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE), Bhubaneswar to B.Ed. course.
It is about 60 K.M from Jamshedpur, the district headquarters of East Singhbhum and about 140 k.m. from Ranchi, the capital of Jharkhand. Beside Honors teaching, both in Arts and Science, the College also imparting teaching to Post Graduate level in various popular subjects of Arts and Science faculties.
The college offers three years undergraduate & two years postgraduate courses in Arts, Science stream under Kolhan University, Chaibasa. The college is also providing Honours teaching in vocational subjects and three years BCA course.
The college also offers two years Bachelor of Education (B.Ed) course for those who have completed their graduation with minimum aggregate of 50% from any recognized university are eligible to apply for this course.
Students here are admitted who completed their graduation from recognized university with at least 50% marks in major or in aggregate at the Degree level.
But Scheduled Castes (S.C.), Scheduled Tribes (S.T.) & (O.B.C) candidates are to be entitled with a relaxation 5% marks ineligibility for admission.
The college also has a Contact Centre of Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU), New Delhi for offering various PGD & Certificate Courses.
