Mahendra Narayan Choudhury (M.N.C.) Balika Mahavidyalaya, Nalbari was established on 1st August, 1979 by solely with the liberal charity of a great philanthropist of the locality, Late Mahendra Narayan Choudhury.

It is one of the premier institution of higher education for girls in one of the traditionally enlightened and sensitive Districts of Assam.

The college is affiliated to Guwahati University, Guwahati and recognised by the University Grants Commission (UGC) under section 2(f) & 12(B) Act, 1956. In 2006 UGC has recognised the college as a "College with Potential for Excellence" (CPE).

It is accredited by National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) with "B++" Grade in 2004. Therefore the college has been re-accredited by National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) with "A" Grade in 2016.

It has an ideal location in the very heart of the town and is linked by road and rail with the rest of the country. The college has taken all possible steps for promoting higher education specially among the girls so as to mould them into responsible citizens of the country and better human beings.

The college has completed 37 glorious years as a pioneering institution in the entire Lower Assam, dedicated to the higher education of women. On 1st July, 1989, the college was brought under Grant-in-Aid System by the Government of Assam.

The college offers two years Higher Secondary Courses in Arts stream under Assam Higher Secondary Educational Council (AHSEC), Guwahati and three years Degree Courses in Arts stream under Gauhati University, Guwahati. It also offers some Career Oriented Courses / Add On Course.

The college also has a Contact Centre of Institute of Distance and Open Learning (IDOL), Gauhati University for PG courses. Besides this, the college is running a Study Centre of Krishna Kanta Handiqui State Open University (KKHSOPU), Guwahati.

Rules & Regulations at Mahendra Narayan Choudhury Balika Mahavidyalaya, Nalbari:

• Students must be regular and punctual in attending classes, seminars and field work
• Students must maintain a high standard of discipline and integrity in conduct
• Students cannot circulate any pamphlet in the campus without the approval of the authority
• Students must pay their dues on time
• Students are prohibited from disfiguring walls and furniture by writing names or messages or indulging in any activity detrimental to academic life and aesthetic aspects of the campus
• Students should participate in various outreach programmes and meetings held from time to time
• Students should maintain decorum in their dealings
• Showing discourtesy to authority, teachers and other employees will be viewed sternly
• Secretaries cannot mismanage union funds and they will have to work under the guidance of professor-in-charge of various port-folios
• All powers of maintenance of discipline are vested with the principal.

  In all cases, the decision of the Principal shall be final and binding

• Use of Mobile Phone is prohibited in the campus
• Ragging in any form is strictly prohibited
• Anybody who indulges in ragging will be severely dealt with
• It is legally punishable offense
