Mahatma Gandhi Medical College & Research Institute (MGMCRI), Puducherry was established in 2002. Its affiliated to Sri Balaji Vidyapeeth University.

The campus is situated in a beautiful sylvan setting at Pillayarkuppam, 14 Kilometers from Puducherry City near the town of Cuddalore. This tertiary care teaching hospital better known as Architectural Wonder of Puducherry, is an imposing landmark on National Highway NH45A.

Mahatma Gandhi Medical College stands strikingly as an architectural beauty, with its massive structures, on the east coast road, at Pillaiyarkuppam, between Puducherry and Cuddalore. Strategically located, on the NH-45A National Highway , very near to Cuddalore town and 14 kms from Puducherry, it provides a full range of services to the numerous urban and rural public in the surroundings.

Shri.M.K.Rajagopalan, the founder, loves innovation and challenging tasks. He believes that a vision with a strong commitment and dedicated task can make things happen, transform lives and change the world. His pioneering venture in the U.T of Pondicherry introduced Six Colleges setting a dynamic trend in professional education.

The magnetic force in him paved the way for others to follow him and today Puducherry boasts more number of professional colleges than any other State for its area and rate of population. His unquenched zeal for educational promotion brought a boon to Chennai too, adding one more Milestone with the birth of SSSMC&RI last year.

Mahatma Gandhi Medical College and Research Institute has been Recognized by the Medical Council of India, Ministry of Health & Family Welfare Government of India, New Delhi & the Govt. of Puducherry for condcuting Undergraduate and Postgraduate Medical Courses.
