Maharshi Karve Stree Shikshan Samstha College of Education for Women, Shirgaon, (Dist. Ratnagiri) was established in 2008 and managed by Maharshi Karve Stree Shikshan Samstha, (MKSSS), Pune which was established on 14th June 1896 with the view to impart quality education to the aspirants.

It is one of the premier colleges established to impart & provide in the field of higher education for the deserving candidates and prove to be a milestone in the part of progress.
 
The college is affiliated to Shreemati Nathibai Damodar Thackersey Women's University, Mumbai. It is recognized & approved by National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE), Bhopal.

The main aim of the college is determined to provide the quality education to the future teachers. With the correct mix of technology and human touch, the college empowers the aspiring teachers to propagate education through the rungs of the society so that they serve the nation while making a satisfying career for themselves.

Earlier the Sanstha was known as “Hingne Stree Shikshan Samstha”. Later, it was named as “Maharshi Karve Stree Shikshan Samstha”.'

The Institution offers education from Kindergarten, Pre-Primary, Primary, Secondary, Higher Secondary schools to Higher Education Colleges.

At present, the Institution runs higher education units like Engineering, Architecture, Management, Nursing, Fashion Technology, Vocational Training Institute, Laser Technology & Applications, Jewelry Design, etc. All these units strive hard to develop women into truly performing citizens in today’s globalization era.

It is a women's private Institute, provided a regular course in which is located in the urban part of Ratnagiri played a pioneering role in the field of higher education.

The society has various centers to provide the college of education courses and units are located at Pune, Satara, Wai, Ratnagiri, Nagpur, Kamshet and Vasai. All these units are meant exclusively for girls or women.

The college offers two years Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.) courses for those who have completed their graduation with minimum aggregate of 50% from any recognized university are eligible to apply for this course.

Students here are admitted who completed their graduation from recognized university with at least 50% marks in major or in aggregate at the Degree level. But Scheduled Castes (S.C.), Scheduled Tribes (S.T.) & (O.B.C) candidates are to be entitled to a relaxation 5% marks ineligibility for admission.

The institution has given priority to teaching and learning process. It has created a better teaching and learning environment in the campus through improved infrastructural and human resources.
