Maharaja Madakari Nayaka First Grade College for Arts & Commerce, Chitradurga was popularly known as Maharaja Madakari Nayaka First Grade College, Chitradurga was established in 1984 under the management of District Madakarinayaka Association (R), Chitradurga.

It is one of the premier colleges established to impart & provide in the field of higher education for the deserving candidates and prove to be a milestone in the part of progress.

Initially, the college was first affiliated with Mysore University, Mysuru then with Kuvempy University, Shivamogga. Now it is affiliated with Davangere University, Davangere and recognized by the University Grants Commission (UGC) under section 2(f) & 12(B) on 9th May 2007 under Act, 1956.

It is accredited by National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) with "B" Grade - (CGPA Score 2.58 on a 4 Point Scale in 1st Cycle) on 27th March 2011.

Maharaja Madakarinayaka First Grade College, Chitradurga is a constituent college founded by Philanthropist and Educationist Honorable Sri.D. Borappaji, has earned their pride of place in the arena of higher education, because of their commitment to quality education.

The college was started with the aspiration of providing educational opportunities to SC, ST, & OBC and other categories for their overall development. As a result of this, the beneficiaries of this college have occupied several prestigious social positions.

It has paved a way for their vertical mobility. By imparting quality education and value education, the college has served the society for its upliftment.

At present, the college offers three years undergraduate courses in Arts, & Commerce streams with various specializations and offers two years post graduate course in Master of Arts with Education specializations under Davangere University, Davangere. It also offers some Add-On Certificate courses.
