Magadh Mahila College, a pioneer institution of higher education for young women in Bihar; established in 1946.The College is centrally located in the heart of the capital city of Patna, Bihar.  The College has come a long way since its inception in 1946 and is now seen as a destination where students can embrace their future with hope and confidence. Years of hard work put in by all stakeholders show us the way forward and hold us in good stead.  As a constituent college of Patna University, Magadh Mahila College strives to cater to higher education of young women with a vision of fulfilling promising future for all. A nourishing environment supported by a combination of competent infrastructure and a dedicated teaching faculty helps our students to achieve the highest accolades in academics, sports, art andculture and other co-curricular/ extracurricular activities. The College had a humble beginning as ‘Government Degree College in Bankipur Girls School, Patna in the year 1938. The College was shifted to its present location on26^th July, 1946.  The College is a constituent unit of Patna University and permanently affiliated under section 2 (f) and 12 B of UGCAct since 1956.  It has been re-accredited with Grade ‘A’ (3.02 CGPA) by the UGC NAAC on January 05, 2013. It has also been accorded the Status of a ‘College with Potential for Excellence (CPE)’ by the UGC on Sept 16, 2011 and has retained the Status of CPE till 2021. The College Emblem- JAGRITI, MAITREE and PRAGATI conveys virtues of human life and strong message of women empowerment.

TheCollege since its inception attracts students from all over the state and neighbour states with diverse socio-cultural and educational background and with different levels of sophistication in verbal and written communication skill. The unprecedented change in new education system, information technology, communication, management and commerce are creating new opportunities and challenges for professional courses as well as conventional courses.

The college has been honoured with ‘Best College Award’ on ‘Shiskha Diwas’ 2014 by Shri. Nitish Kumar, The Honourable Chief Minister of Bihar and has also been awarded ‘Excellent Institution of Higher Education for Girls in Bihar’ by His Excellency Shri Ram Nath Kovind, the Governor-cum- Chancellor of Universities of Bihar, on the occasion of ‘National Education Bihar Summit and Award 2016’. The College, a pioneer institution of higher education is a multi-faculty institution offering quality teaching in Bachelor (Honours) Degree Courses in Humanities, Social Sciences, Commerce, Management, Computer Applications as well as Physical and Life Sciences. The college also offers postgraduate courses in six subjects, undergraduate vocational courses, postgraduate diploma courses and nine certificate courses conducted under self-financing schemes. The College students have excelled in academics, as well as in sports and music. It is a matter of great pride; that since its inception in 1946, the College has proved its academic potential moving from strength to strength.

The students have brought accolades for the college with their extra ordinary performances in Academics, Art and Culture, Tele-Communications, Judiciary, Management, Software Engineering and I.T Sectors. The method of Teaching and Learning is centre at equipping the students to be successful in their lives. As the centre of excellence in education, skill development and overall development of students, the college provides perennially flowing environment of self-learning which enables and equips them to become flexible and to meet the women centric challenges. In the current global scenario, the College provides students of professional degree courses a vast range of opportunities to pursue a very rewarding career in corporates.    The College motivates the research activities, honours, outstanding achievement of staff and students. 95% teaching faculty are Ph.D. holders with potential to turn the college into a centre of research in higher education. Mostly teachers are engaged in inter-disciplinary subjects concerned with research works and are publishing articles, writing papers regularly in reputed State / National and International Journals.

Many teachers are taking classes in the concerned Postgraduate departments in the Patna University and other colleges in conjunction with their normal classes in the college. All teaching faculty of all departments (conventional / vocational) are acting as supervisors of research work of UG and PG students in all disciplines under the CPE Project. The students’ research grant is sanctioned by UGC for improving and promoting the students of all departments towards research work. All research programs are initiated and completed basis CPE Guidelines and after the Power Point Presentation by the students, the research articles have been published in the college research journal JIGYASA. The Students’ Research publication is an attempt to translate the classrooms knowledge of students into life experiences. College’s hallmark has always been” Quality teaching and for the Development of Human capital and Human resources. “Quality teaching, computer education, facility for extracurricular activities including Sports, Music, NSS, NCC, Science and IT Society, Students’ Counselling Cell, Grievance Redressal Cell, Anti-Ragging Cell, Gender Knowledge Centre, Green Earth Brigade, Red Ribbon Club, Language Lab and Hostel accommodation are inside the campus with modern facilities.The college campus is eco-friendly and Ragging free. Ragging in any form is strictly prohibited in the college campus. In addition to providing required knowledge, skill and building the positive attitude, the College conducts several extracurricular, co-curricular activities, placement drives, counselling and training sessions, which include mock group discussions, interview sessions and self-assessment sessions that give students ample opportunities to develop and showcase their talents. The College provides a comprehensive platform to instill skill, attitudes and competencies in its graduates so that they develop ability to undertake problem solving on real time basis and evolve not only as qualified professionals or entrepreneurs but social activists and leaders as well.

The teaching and mentoring methodology adopted by the College encourages independent and innovative thinking and helps the students in developing holistic perspective, strong knowledge base, contemporary skill- sets and positive attitude.

The College has a strong ‘work hard’ ethics, with different kinds of co-curricular and extra-curricular activities, where students are provided with opportunities to plan, organize, exercise and be accountable, for student-run-society / cells, sports, entrepreneurial / cultural and tech fests. All facilities for Indoor games / Sports / Co-curricular and Extra-curricular activities are provided to the students which helps them in winning trophies and top positions in Inter-university, District, State, National and International Athletics, Cultural and other important events. At a glance, graduates from MMC, Patna are getting placed in good positions in various sectors such as IT, Banking & Insurance, Consultancy, Digital Marketing, Micro Finance, Marketing Research, Media Houses, and NGOs etc.  And this has been the success mantra at MMC.
