About M.P. Arts and M.H.Commerce College for Women

M.P. Arts and M.H.Commerce College for Women, Ahmedabad was established on 12th June 1973 and it is linked with its founder institution, an orphanage known as Mahipatram Rupram Ashram.

It is one of the premier institutions to impart & provide in the field of higher education for the deserving candidates and prove to be a milestone in the part of progress.

The college is affiliated to Gujarat University, Ahmedabad and recognized by University Grants Commission (UGC) under section 2(f) & 12(B) in August 1980 under Act, 1956. It is re-accredited by National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) with "B" Grade - (CGPA Score 2.77 on a 4 Point Scale in 2nd Cycle) on 3rd September 2010.

The medium of instruction in this college is English and Gujarati. It is an aided college affiliated to Gujarat University, Ahmedabad. The college is run by Mahipatram Rupram Ashram Trust; a body registered under the Societies Registration Act, XXI of 1860 and is represented by a Board of 11 Trustees.

The Ashram was founded on 17th December 1892. It started on a small footing in Ahmedabad with only eight inmates. The Ashram flourished over the years into a large institution, now housing 75 orphan children.

It is one of the largest, the oldest and the well-known orphanages in the country. A short history of the Ashram can throw light on the beginning of all its academic institutions.

It has grown into a huge monolith humming with multifarious activities, mainly working as a protective institute for deserted women and orphaned children, who are given shelter, education, and training for future independent life.

The Ashram received two Prestigious Awards from the State Govt. for doing commendable work in the field of Child Welfare Activities (1986) and the Best Institutional Award (1991) and a cash prize of rupees 1,00,000/- for doing precious work in the field of Protection of Women.

The college offers Undergraduate Courses - BA (Sociology, Gujarati & Economics in Gujarati Medium) & B.Com (Both in English and Gujarati medium) and an M.Com Centre.

It also offers Certificate & Vocational Courses.

A sufficient number of classrooms with varying sizes are made available for the smooth conduct of different classes in the college
The college has a library with a good number of books (both text and reference) on various subjects to meet the needs of the students as well as the teachers with reading room facility. Daily Newspapers and selected journals are also regularly subscribed
State of the Art Laboratories with sufficient space and all the necessary equipment are made available to various departments
The college has taken up the responsibility of imparting necessary, effective and practical education to the students so that they can reach great heights and attain maximum achievements in their life
The college has established an Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) on 15th June 2005 to assure the quality of the college
The college runs a canteen inside the campus where staff and students can have meals and snacks prepared in a hygienic manner
Internet facilities may be availed by the students and teachers as per their needs
The college has got a large playground and facilities, equipment for different sports
State Government and the Central Government offers a number of scholarships to the meritorious students and the students belonging to SC / ST / OBC
A special complaint cell (Sexual Harassment Cell) has been formed for the female students in the college. Students can directly complain orally or by written application to the head of the cell. Apart from this, Ragging from any person is strictly prohibited on the college campus
The institute provides the training facility like- face to face interview, resume making, communication skills, that help the students to face the campus recruitment
For every course, the college imparts practical training to its students that helps them to understand better, improve their demonstrative skills, eliminate hesitation and in this process strives to mold them into industry ready professionals
The college also provides NCC training to its students. The NCC cadets attend different camps and earn pride for themselves and for the college
The college Unit NSS Wing performs different type of social services within and outside of the area
The college maintains a "Students Welfare Fund" to provide financial help to the poor and deserving students, on application from such students, subject to the availability of funds
