Maharashtra Education Society's M.E.S. Abasaheb Garware College, Pune was established in 1945 and managed by Maharashtra Education Society (M.E.S.) was formerly known as Poona Native Institutions which was established in 1860.

Earlier, Abasaheb Garware College is the only Science and Arts College of the Maharashtra Education Society and then renamed as M.E.S. College of Arts and Science, it imparted primary education in languages and social sciences, and a few subjects in science.

It is one of the premier colleges established to impart & provide in the field of higher education for the deserving candidates and prove to be a milestone in their part of progress.

The college is affiliated with the Savitribai Phule Pune University, Pune and it is recognized by the University Grants Commission (UGC) under section 2(f) & 12(B) in 1949 under Act, 1956.
 
It is re-accredited by National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) with "A" Grade (in 2nd Cycle) on 29th March 2016.

The Maharashtra Education Society has been established numbers of colleges/schools for the student in the region of Maharashtra and all over the India provides complete education from K.G. to P.G.

It is a co-educational private institute, providing a regular course which is located in an urban part of Pune played a pioneering role in the field of higher education.

The college conferred the status of grant-in-aid college that the fees and all the facilities for the students are fixed by the government. The student's admission is done as per the Admission Criteria prescribed by the affiliating university.

The college has awarded as the best college by the affiliating university and also a number of awards in publication, offering scholarship & also awarded by the different society.

The college offers three years undergraduate courses in Arts, Science and Commerce streams with various specializations and offers two years postgraduate courses in Arts and Science with various specializations under Savitribai Phule Pune University.

It also offers Ph.D. and M.Phil. and Diploma courses.

Apart from that the Institute also offers Bachelor of Vocational (B.Voc) with various specialization to the students who have minimum educational qualification required for a candidate to join B.Voc courses is HSC (12th standard) pass or the minimum qualification is SSC (10th standard) pass.
