Lal Bahadur Shastri Government Arts, Science and Commerce College, R.T. Nagar (Dist. Bengaluru Urban) was also known as Lal Bahadur Shastri Government First Grade College, Bengaluru Urban was established on 13th August 1933.

It is one of the premier colleges established to impart & provide in the field of higher education for the deserving candidates and prove to be a milestone in the part of progress.

The college is affiliated to Bangalore University, Bengaluru and recognized by the University Grants Commission (UGC) under section 2(f) on 28th May 1999 & 12(B) under Act, 1956.

It is accredited by National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) with "B" Grade - (CGPA Score 2.46 on a 4 Point Scale in 2nd Cycle) on 10th December 2014.

At present, the college was taken over by the Department of Collegiate Education of Government of Karnataka and conferred the status of Government Autonomous College.

The college was started its academic courses in 1994 and it was housed at a Jayamahal segment of Bangalore City, which is a minority bound region providing education to all sects of people.

The present institution in its primal period was functioning under the banner of Jayamahal Government First Grade College in a rented building on CBI Road, Ganganagar, Bangalore (from 1993 – 1999).

It was shifted to the present new building in the year 1999. It was rechristened as Lal Bahadur Shastri Government First Grade College, in remembrance of the great freedom fighter.

Setting with a new vision, mission, & goals began to function by providing an inclusive education to all sects of people. The college which was started with just 04 students has at present a total strength of 767, out of which 334 are boys and 433 are girls inclusive of two Physically Challenged students.

To meet the sufficient workload there are 37 faculties working, they have been encouraged to attend seminars, conferences, workshops training related to academic and teaching skills.

Modern aids and innovative teaching and methodology have adhered for the benefit of stakeholders.

At present, the college offers three years courses in Arts, Science, Commerce, & Management streams with various kind of specializations under Bangalore University, Bengaluru.
