Taranath Shikshana Samsthe's Laxmi Venkatesh Desai College, Raichur was also known as L.V.D. College, Raichur was established on 18th August 1954.

The college was established under the management of Taranath Shikshana Samsthe, originally known as Raichur Education Society, registered under Hyderabad Societies Registration Act, was founded by late Pandit Taranath.

It is one of the premier colleges established to impart & provide in the field of higher education for the deserving candidates and prove to be a milestone in the part of progress.

The college is affiliated to Gulbarga University, Kalaburagi and recognized by the University Grants Commission (UGC) under section 2(f) & 12(B) under Act, 1956.

It is re-accredited by National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) with "A" Grade - (CGPA Score 3.22 on a 4 Point Scale in 2nd Cycle) on 5th January 2016.

In the beginning of the third quarter of 20th century-on the 18th August 1954 to be precise, the infant Laxmi Venkatesh Desai College was beginning to make a name for itself with just 9 students on its rolls in a thatched structure in Raichur.

Soon the college moved to the present location. The college, named after the donors Late Smt.Laxmi Bai Venkob Rao Desai and Late Sri Venkob Rao Desai is today on a sprawling campus measuring nearly 17.5 acres with over 1,00,000 sq.ft. built up area.

This was made possible because of the munificent donations from the late Venkob Rao Desai and the late Laxmi Bai Venkob Rao Desai. These two great souls hailed from a remote far-flung village Maladakal in Devadurg Taluk, indisputably the most backward in the educationally backward Raichur district. But for them, higher education for the people of this area would have remained a distant dream.

The college has greatly contributed in educating three generations thereby changing social, economic and cultural scenario in this notified socio-economically backward region of the state.

The college offers ambiance conducive for pursuing the quality education, in its serene campus.

Highly qualified and dedicated lecturers are associated with the institute in training the students.

At present, the college offers three years undergraduate courses in Arts, Science, & Management streams with various kind of specializations and offers two years postgraduate course in Science stream Physics & Chemistry specializations under Gulbarga University, Kalaburagi. It also offers Post Graduate Diploma Courses and Career Oriented Add-On Courses.
