Kokrajhar Govt. College, Kokrajhar was established 16th August, 1959 with a noble mission of providing higher education to the underprivileged people of this part of the country when higher education was a distant dream for most of the people.

The college is  affiliated to Gauhati University, Guwahati and recognized by the University Grants Commission (UGC) under section 2(f) & 12(B) Act, 1956. It is accredited by National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) with "B" Grade.

Brief History:
 
In the first half of 1957, the educated people of Kokrajhar town, some government officers and local enthusiasts came together to discuss the long-felt need of a college at Kokrajhar town. That the place was educationally backward and the people needed a college urgently at the place becomes clear from the proceedings of their first public meeting in connection with the formation of an Organizing Committee to establish a college at Kokrajhar.

The people of northern area of the Goalpara District have keenly felt since a long time the dire necessity of establishing a college for Arts and Science at Kokrajhar to impart higher education to young learners who are unable to go distant places for want of adequate means.

It is also observed that for want of institutions for higher education in the area, the number of persons having higher educational qualification may be enumerated at one’s fingertips.

There are 14 high schools existing in the area and the students passing out from these schools are quite adequate in respect of starting and running a college.

After considering and examining all relevant factors as regards to the establishment of a college at Kokrajhar the centre place of northern area of the district, the centre of the tribal backward class people and this meeting notes that it is now high time for starting a college for Arts and Science at Kokrajhar.

• Students supportive measures etc
• To extend help towards the promotion and development of a progressive society
• To execute research projects in both science and arts faculties, which are relevant and beneficial to the interest of the society

Mission:

• Providing higher education to the underprivileged people of this part of the country when higher education was a distant dream for most of the people. It was set up with a missionary zeal and untiring efforts of some missionaries of the place
• To provide the people an opportunity of higher education so that they could shoulder the responsibility of educating their people on large scale
• To promote scientific, rational and secular outlook among the people and to help people overcome superstition and evil social practices and to inculcate a rational behaviour
• To help the people to get employment.

  Acquisition of higher education is oriented towards better employment opportunity. Establishment of Kokrajhar Govt. College was also equipped with this noble mission
