KNM Government Arts & Science College, Kanjiramkulam (Dist. Thiruvananthapuram) was also known as Kunjukrishnan Nadar Memorial Government Arts and Science College, Kanjiramkulam was established on 27th October 1982 and works under Govt. of Kerala.
It is one of the premier colleges established to impart & provide in the field of higher education for the deserving candidates and prove to be a milestone on the part of progress.
The college is affiliated with the University of Kerala, Thiruvananthapuram and it is recognized by the University Grants Commission (UGC) under section 2(f) & 12(B) on 3rd March 1999 under Act, 1956.
It is re-accredited by National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) with "B++" Grade - (CGPA Score 3.00 on a 4 Point Scale in 2nd Cycle) on 8th July 2013.
The aim of the college is to explore, develop and apply human and technological capabilities for the benefit of the regional, national and international community.
It is a co-educational government Institute, providing a regular course in which is located in the rural part of Thiruvananthapuram played a pioneering role in the field of higher education.
The college has started a junior college with two batches of pre-degree having a strength of 80 students each for the Humanities and Commerce groups.
The college was formally inaugurated on 27th October 1982 by Shri K Karunakaran, the honorable Chief Minister of Kerala. Dr. P M Madhu Soodanan assumed charge of the principal of the college on 2nd November 1982.
Later the college was named as Kunjukrishnan Nadar Memorial Government Arts and Science College, Kanjiramkulam on 8th April 1983.
The first graduate course was started in the year 1992 with Economics as the main subject. In 1995 B.A. in Sociology was sanctioned. K.N.M. Government College is the only Government College, which offers this course.
In 1997, the college was shifted to the present “H” shaped building.
In the 1998 - 2000 periods, Pre Degree batches were de-linked from the college and two new graduate courses were started (BSc Mathematics and B Com).
In 1999, this college was recognized under the UGC and the college got 12(B) and 2(f) status. In 2004 B.A. in Communicative English, the one and only course of its kind in the Government sector was started.
The college had received many awards and accolades at a city, state and national level for their educational advancements also received the numbers of achievements awards in the field of sports and curricular activities under the University of Kerala, Thiruvananthapuram.
The college offers three years undergraduate courses in Arts, Commerce, and Science streams and offers two years postgraduate courses in Arts stream with various specializations under the University of Kerala, Thiruvananthapuram. It also offers Diploma and Add-On Certificate courses.
A Continuing Education Unit functions at the college under the Centre for Adult Continuing Education and Extension, University of Kerala, Thiruvananthapuram.
University examinations of different courses, examinations conducted by the University of Kerala, Thiruvananthapuram, and various other examinations are held in the college premises.
