Kanya Maha Vidyalaya, Jalandhar was popularly known as KMV Jalandhar was established in 1886 but came into existence in 1940 and managed by KMV Management.

It is one of the premier colleges established to impart & provide in the field of higher education for the deserving candidates and prove to be a milestone in the part of progress.

The college is at present affiliated with Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar but formerly affiliated with Panjab University, Chandigarh and it is recognized by the University Grants Commission (UGC) under section 2(f) & 12(B) on 1st January 1956 under Act, 1956.

It is re-accredited by National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) with "A" Grade - (CGPA Score 3.56 on a 4 Point Scale in 2nd Cycle) on 5th May 2014.

The aim of the college was bringing about a perceptional transformation among the students, by initiating a process of self-exploration Pst - art science commerce, management and also provide a much-needed orientational input in moral education to the young inquiring minds.

It was a woman private Institute, provided a regular course in which is located in the urban part of Jalandhar played a pioneering role in the field of higher education.

It is an institution which was started as a result of the renaissance that India witnessed towards the end of the 19th century.

A glimpse at its glorious past takes us more than hundred and twenty-five years back. Those were the times when degeneration of the society was in full swing.

During the British rule, the country was also reeling under the burden of an orthodox, retrogressive society, where women were the targets of infinite atrocities like Sati Pratha, Child Marriages, Purdah System, and education, for them, was totally tabooed.

Later Lala Ji persisted with his efforts and continued to nurture the seedling with the selfless devotion which was christened ‘Arya Kanya Pathshala’ and adopted the name ‘Kanya Maha Vidyalaya’ in 1896.

The Vidyalaya was not affiliated to any university till 1944 and awarded its own certificates titled Sabhya, Sikshita, Deekshita, Up-Snatika, and Snatika.

By virtue of the glorious role played by it in India's struggle for Independence and the splendid service it rendered to the re-awakening and education of Indian women, the Vidyalaya gradually assumed the character of a national institution. It became a guiding star for women institutions across the country.

On 13th November 1920 when Gandhi Ji inaugurated the Gujarat Peeth in Ahmedabad, he said, "It is formed after the model of Kanya Maha Vidyalaya" the Legacy of Learning (Moral, Cultural & Intellectual Heritage).

The college conferred the status of grant-in-aid college that the fees and all the facilities for the students are fixed by the government.

This college has conferred as the status as "College with Potential for Excellence (CPE)" on 18th March 2010 & 'The Heritage College’ by MHRD Govt. of India as the best college by their Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar.

The college also received the numbers of achievements awards in the field of education, sports and curricular activities under Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar.

A unique initiative in the field of international collaborations courses to be offered in the whole of India, This innovative value-based programme is modeled after the ones being offered in internationally renowned Ivy League Universities of USA.

The college has been designed with the aim of bridging the gap between high school and higher education, this course provides a wide view of world issues, international scenario and human history to the new entrants so that they can carry forward the rich legacy of humanity as responsible and humane citizens of the world.

In an MOU with Chatham University, Pittsburg, USA, KMV has agreed to develop a partnership to facilitate international exchange and global understanding as well as engage in cooperative initiatives of mutual benefit for students and faculty at both institutions, including programmes.

Student exchange and real-time online interaction have already begun under this collaboration.

This was the first college in the region to have a Student Exchange Programme which enables KMV undergraduate students to shift their grades to Lesley and Chatham University, the USA after the first year to continue their degree.

The college has been granted the prestigious membership of US College Board, New York, USA and facility of International faculty from the best institutions in the world like Boston University, USA and Harvard University, USA keep visiting the college to impart global education to the students.

This was the only college in the region to have organized five international conferences which garnered participation of experts and scholars from Ivy League Universities International & National Resource Persons at International Conference on ‘Role of Technology in Higher Education’.

At present, the college offers three years undergraduate courses in Bachelor of Arts, Management, Science, and Commerce streams and offers two years of post-graduate in Arts, Science, Management, and Commerce streams with various specializations under Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar. It also offers Diploma, Post Graduate Diploma, and Add-On Certificate courses.

To inculcate ethical and moral values amongst students, the college was also started two study centers i.e. Gandhian Studies Centre & Guru Nanak Studies Centre under the guidelines of UGC.
