Khalsa College Amritsar was an autonomous college established on 5th March 1892 by the leaders of the Singh Sabha Movement and managed by Khalsa College Charitable Society (R).

It is one of the premier colleges established to impart & provide in the field of higher education for the deserving candidates and prove to be a milestone in the part of progress.

The college is affiliated with Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar and it is recognized by the University Grants Commission (UGC) under section 2(f) & 12(B) on 19th April 1956 under Act, 1956.

It is re-accredited by National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) with "A" Grade (CGPA Score 3.41 on a 4 Point Scale in 2nd Cycle) on 16th September 2011.

The aim of the college was to give the students due to the recognition of originality, vision and promote creativity so that they leave not just with a degree but with a sense of pride and achievement of academic and personal accomplishment.

It was a co-educational self-financed Institute, provided a regular course in which is located in the urban part of Amritsar played a pioneering role in the field of higher education.

After the British annexation of Punjab, in the wake of the decline of Maharaja Ranjit Singh‟s empire, the Sikhs were devoid of their state as the same had been confiscated.

The flickering torch of religious, social and political life among the Sikhs that was becoming dimmer after the fall of Sikh Empire has been kept burning by Khalsa college and the college has also contributed floods of light and learning to the remotest and darkest corners of the country.

Khalsa College has also helped to raise the status of Sikh Community in the field of education.

Khalsa  College Amritsar is the first and the only autonomous which was college established prior to the grant of Autonomy by Guru  Nanak Dev University on 22nd May 2013.

Thr college also has approved by ISO 9001-2000 Certification & ISO 14001-1996 Certification.

The college conferred the status of grant-in-aid college that the fees and all the facilities for the students are fixed by the government.

This college has conferred as the status as "College with Potential for Excellence (CPE)" on 19th May 2006 & ''Star Status’ by Dept. of Bio-Tech., Govt. of India, New Delhi on 6th July 2009 as the best college by the Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar.

The college also received the numbers of achievements awards in the field of education, sports and curricular activities under Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar.

A unique initiative in the field of international collaborations courses to be offered in the whole of India, This innovative value-based programme is modeled after the ones being offered in internationally renowned in the UK.

At present, the college offers three years undergraduate courses in Bachelor of Arts, Management, Science, and Commerce streams and offers two years of post-graduate in Arts, Science, and Commerce streams with various specializations under Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar. It also offers Diploma, Post Graduate Diploma, and Add-On Certificate courses.
