Kazi Nazrul Islam Mahavidyalaya, Churulia was established in 1981. The College is affiliated to the University of Burdwan.

The college was named after Kabi Nazrul, a rebel poet in the history of Bengali literature and Churulia is the birth place of this famous poet. The aim of the college is to provide quality education and ideal environment to develop mental, Physical, social and spiritual level. It is a private aided college and offers undergraduate courses in Arts, commerce and Science stream. The college is well equipped with all modern facilities. To promote the higher education in this region.

Kazi Nazrul Islam Mahavidyalaya, Churulia, was set up in the Academic Session1982-83, as a by-product of the long standing fulfillment of the aspirations of the local people of the area to have a College in Jamuria block of Burdwan district of West Bengal. Kazi Nazrul Islam , known as the rebel poet of Bengal, belonged to this area and it was but natural that the descendants of the poet who had set up Nazrul Academy should take the lead in this aspect. It was felt that such a step would actually provide opportunities to access to quality higher education to the young people of the area. The backwardness and remoteness of the area has proved to be a major hindrance to the development of academic growth in this area and over the last three decades the local government has not been too proactive in developing infrastructure in this area. Therefore, the College has had to fight through multiple hurdles in its journey and yet the College have always risen to the occasion.

Kazi Nazrul Islam Mahavidyalaya is located in the coal-belt of Bengal in the Jamuria Block of Paschim Bardhhaman district. It began its journey as a Govt-Aided Co-educational General Degree Arts College only on 1st June, 1982.

The establishment of the College reflected the long-standing aspirations of the people of the area for a College in the name of the rebel poet Kazi Nazrul who was born at Churulia.. With time the College has been able to fulfill to a very large extent the desires and aspirations of the people of the area in facilitating quality higher education. This has been despite the fact that the remoteness of location of the College has proved to be major hindrance. Originally affiliation for Commerce in the session 1989-90 and further upgraded itself with Honours affiliation in Bengali, English, Hindi, Geography, History, Political Science and Accountancy. Sanskrit, Economics and Philosophy are also taught at the College. Over the last three decades of its existence the College has striven constantly to keep abreast of technological development and ICT by constantly tiding over its hindrances with the effort of the management of the College, a dedicated band of Teaching and Non-teaching Staff and students who have performed admirably and are now located all across the country in various sectors of life. The College has increasingly become an institution which believes in its abilities despite geographical socio-economic and infrastructural odds.
