About Katras College, Katrasgarh
Katras College, Katrasgarh was established on 16th July 1964.
It is one of the premier institutions established to impart & provide in the field of higher education for the deserving candidates and prove to be a milestone in the part of progress.
The was recognized by the University Grants Commission (UGC) under section 2(f) on 10th March 1970 & 12(B) on 17th June 1972 under Act, 1956. It is accredited by National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) with "B" Grade.
Katras College began to grow and develop slowly but steadily. It was granted permanent affiliation by Ranchi University, Ranchi on 2nd June 1969.
Katras College, Katrasgarh, to develop rapidly when Dr. K. P. S. Choudhary, a great scholar - teacher of Philosophy and an eminent educationist, joined as the Principal on 1st August 1972.
The college made a name for itself as a center of quality education. He also established Commerce faculty. The college began to make its marks in the field of games and sports also.
The college was declared a constituent unit of Ranchi University, Ranchi, vide RU letter no. P/21-370409 dt. 10th March 1980. The people of Katrasgarh remember Dr. Choudhary with love and respect.
Vinoba Bhave University, Hazaribag was created on 17th September 1992, and Katras College, Katrasgarh become its constituent Unit At. Present, it is managed, affiliated, & maintained by Vinoba Bhave University, Hazaribag.
Katras College, Katrasgarh is still the only constituent College in Baghmara Assembly Constituency. So it serves a very large population.
At present, 8740 students are enrolled in Degree Classes in the three faculties of Arts, Commerce, and Science and almost 50% of them are girls. At the same time, the college imparts education to 3040 Inter students of Arts, Science and Commerce. Hence Katras College, Katrasgarh, at present, has 11,780 students.

- The college has well-equipped with modern facilities like library, laboratory, classrooms, computer lab, canteen, common rooms, multipurpose halls, playground etc.
- A sufficient number of classrooms with varying sizes are made available for the smooth conduct of different classes in the college
- The college has a library with a good number of books (both text and reference) on various subjects to meet the needs of the students as well as the teachers with reading room facility. Daily Newspapers and selected journals are also regularly subscribed
- State of the Art Laboratories with sufficient space and all the necessary equipment are made available to various departments
- The college has established an Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) on 28th January 2015 to assure the quality of the college and also details regarding submission of Annual Quality Assurance Reports (AQAR) to NAAC annually
- The college runs a canteen inside the campus where staff and students can have meals and snacks prepared in a hygienic manner and at an affordable cost
- Internet facilities may be availed by the students and teachers as per their needs
- Transportation facility is available for the students
- The college also has a hostel with providing all the facilities, security and good atmosphere, best suited for studies of the girls coming from far-off places.
- The college has a large playground with will-equipment for different sports like Cricket, Football, Volleyball, Hockey, Badminton and so on
- A medical facility has been available in the college for the benefit of the students
- State Government and Central Government offers a number of scholarships to the meritorious students and the students belonging to SC / ST / OBC
- A special complaint cell (Sexual Harassment Cell) has been formed for the female students in the college. Students can directly complain orally or by written application to the head of the cell. Apart from this, Ragging is strictly prohibited on the college campus
- The institution has provided ICT facilities like computers, projectors, audio-visual gadgets, scanners and printers to the departments and also other aids and a huge number of availability of books for effective delivery of curriculum and for inculcating the knowledge of the subject
- To sharpen the skill of students and their personality development, various curricular and extra-curricular activities are the regular features of the institution
- The college also organizes workshops, seminars, and conferences for improving teaching skills and methodology
- The college consists Women Cell to help female students. This cell helps and guides girls to sort out from their personal problem and avoid them from any harassment
