Karmela Rani Training College, Kollam is a Christian backward minority college was established on 16th July 1960 and managed by the Latin Catholic Diocese of Quilon governed by the memorandum of understanding of Quilon Latin Catholic Diocese Educational Development Council (R).
It is one of the premier colleges established to impart & provide in the field of higher education for the deserving candidates and prove to be a milestone on the part of progress.
The college is affiliated with the University of Kerala, Thiruvananthapuram. It is also recognized and approved by National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE), Bengaluru & Govt. of Kerala.
The main aim of the college is determined to provide the quality education to the future teachers. With the correct mix of technology and human touch, the college empowers the aspiring teachers to propagate education through the rungs of the society so that they serve the nation while making a satisfying career for themselves.
It is a co-educational private Institute, providing a regular course in which is located in the urban part of Kollam played a pioneering role in the field of higher education.
On 16th July, every year, Catholics across the globe celebrate the feast of Our Lady of Mount Carmel or Karmela Rani. And it was on 16th July 1960 that the intimation from the Registrar regarding the approval of the application for starting the college was received. Hence Rt. Rev. Dr. Jerome M. Fernandez, Bishop Jerome, the founder chose this name for the college.
The Karmela Rani training college was established independently in the Jyothi Nikethan campus on 18th August 1972 in the beginning of the academic year. Later re-establishing the college on this new campus close to St. Aloysius Higher Secondary School, Kollam. Thus in the year 2003, the college was shifted to a new campus.
The college also received the many achievements awards in the field of Teacher Training at University of Kerala, Thiruvananthapuram.
The college offers two years Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.) course for those who have completed their graduation with minimum aggregate of 50% from any recognized university are eligible to apply for this course.
Students here are admitted who completed their graduation from the recognized university with at least 50% marks in major or in aggregate at the Degree level. But Scheduled Castes (S.C.), Scheduled Tribes (S.T.) & (O.B.C) candidates are to be entitled to a relaxation 5% marks ineligibility for admission.
The college offers two years Master of Education (M.Ed.) course for those who have completed their Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.) with the minimum aggregate of 50% from any recognized university are eligible to apply for this course.
Students here are admitted who completed their graduation in Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.) from the recognized university with at least 50% marks in major or in aggregate at the graduation level. But Scheduled Castes (S.C.), Scheduled Tribes (S.T.) & (O.B.C) candidates are to be entitled to a relaxation 5% marks ineligibility for admission.
University examinations of different courses, examinations conducted by the University of Kerala, Thiruvananthapuram, and various other examinations are held in the college premises.
The admission to B.Ed. the programme is made on the basis of marks of the applicants obtained in the qualifying examination, and other rules of admission prescribed by university and government.
