About Kalyan Post Graduate College, Bhilai Nagar

Kalyan Post Graduate College, Bhilai Nagar was established in 1963. It is one of the prestigious colleges which has played a pioneering role in the field of higher education.

The college is affiliated to Pt. Ravishankar Shukla University, Raipur and recognized by the University Grants Commission (UGC) under section 2(f) & 12(B) Act, 1956. It is re-accredited by National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) with "B" Grade.

It is managed by the Chhattisgarh Kalyan Society which is a registered body. The object of starting Kalyan Post Graduate College was to cater to the need of higher education for employees of Bhilai Steel Plant, whose promotion was held up for want of degree education.

In the beginning, it started as a night college. 100% students of the college were the employees of B.S.P. Even though it was a night college affiliated to Sagar University, Sagar (M.P.) the results of the university examination were very much encouraging.

Many students obtained merit positions. It will be pertinent to mention here that Mr. Om Prakash Chaudhary a student of B.Sc. of the college has brought to the glory and name to the institution by securing 153rd Position in the I.A.S category of UPSC examination for the year 2004.

The popularity of the college enhanced day by day and in the year 1971. It became a full-fledged Arts & Commerce college affiliated to Pt. Ravishankar Shukla University, Raipur.

As indicated earlier, the need for graduate teachers was very much in demand in the area and therefore in 1973 Education Faculty was started, which is happened to be the first Teacher Training College in private sector in this region.

Later, being an industrial township the higher education in science was in great demand and looking to those demands, B.Sc. course was introduced in 1974. Today, Kalyan Mahavidyalaya has five faculties viz.

Arts, Science, Commerce Education, and Journalism. Later, the need for Postgraduation Courses in these faculties was strongly felt and therefore in 1981-82 P.G. Courses in Arts and Commerce, in 1982-83 P.G. Courses in Education, 1986-87 P.G. Courses in Science Faculties were started.

To keep the lamp of education burning and to keep up the ever-expanding need of higher education Biotechnology, Computer Science, Electronics and new subjects such as Biotechnology, Biochemistry, Microbiology & Information Technology at the graduation level and Biotechnology, Computer Science and Electronics at P.G. level have started in the session 2006-07. Also B.J.M.C. a three-year degree course affiliated with Kushabhau Thakrey Patrakarita Avam Jansanchar Vishwavidyalaya, Raipur has started in the last session. From this session B.Com. (Honours), B.C.A. and P.G.D.C.A. courses are being started on the college campus.

Rules & Regulations at Kalyan Post Graduate College, Bhilai Nagar:

The principal has exclusive rights to expel a student from college due to one or more reasons as below:

  • If progress in the class is not satisfactory
  • If the behavior of the student is objectionable
  • Principal reserves the exclusive right to cancel the admission
  • If any information is concealed or not provided by a Student in any application form, then the admission of such a student will be canceled
  • All students are supposed to concentrate fully on their studies and should participate in all the programs organized by the college
  • Every student shall take interest in proper arrangement, security and cleanliness of college buildings, laboratories, and library and they shall help in all these activities.They will not participate in activities against this norms either directly or indirectly
  • The student shall participate in all examinations conducted by the college.

    They will not be absent in the class or exam without permission of Principal

  • Every student should behave politely with his colleagues or teachers and shall never behave awkwardly
  • Students are expected to follow “Simple Living, High Thinking” principal
  • Therefore particularly within the boundary of college intake of any prohibited commodity is strictly ruled out.The students are expected to follow a simple dress code
  • If a student faces any problem then he/ she will submit an application for his/ her teacher or principal as per pre-decided procedure
  • In no case, the student shall adopt the way of violence and strike to solve any problem
  • No student shall take part in active politics or shall he/ she seek help from political parties or newspapers regarding their problems
  • No use unfair means in examinations and/or to trying to seek undue advantage in examinations will be considered a serious offense
  • Every student should work hard to enhance name and fame of college
  • If anybody does a violation of these norms, then we should help them to punish, so that the main purpose of college i.e. teaching is not affected
  • Every student should take precautions so that he/she is not charged with immoral activities. However, if this happens, then he/ she will be expelled from the college

Raging is a Punishable offense:

As per the directives of Honorable Supreme Court raging in College / Universities is a punishable offense. Senior students must note the following:

  • F.I.R. shall be lodged immediately against the student as a complaint of raging received against him/her.
  • The student shall be immediately expelled from the college if a complaint of ragging is received against that student.
  • Any student found guilty of ragging shall not be admitted in the college.
  • As per the Chhattisgarh University ordinance 1973 serial 7 section 13, Principal is capable of taking disciplinary action against students violating regulations of the college.

    For indiscipline, in the above ordinance, provision for the following punishment is made.

  • Suspension
  • Expulsion
  • Debar from University exam.
  • As per Chhattisgarh University ordinance 1973 section 7, 75% attendance is compulsory for entrance in university exam. This rule has to be observed very strictly.

 

  • The college has an attractive, campus situated in secured and serene atmosphere suitable for learning
  • The college has separate individual departments for all subjects with young, dynamic faculty and non-teaching staff and with good results.
  • The college has the most eminent Faculty members and they are really well qualified, experienced and truly committed towards enhancement and development of the students.
  • The institution is working with a shining sun, the spectrum which is radiating in all possible directions.
  • The college has well-equipped with modern facilities like library, laboratory, classrooms, computer lab, canteen, seminar halls, multipurpose halls, playground & hostel etc.
  • A sufficient number of classrooms with varying sizes are made available for the smooth conduct of different classes in the college.
  • The college has a library with a good number of books (both text and reference) on various subjects to meet the needs of the students as well as the teachers with reading room facility. Daily Newspapers and selected journals are also regularly subscribed.
  • State of the Art Laboratories with sufficient space and all the necessary equipment are made available to various departments.
  • The college has taken up the responsibility of imparting necessary, effective and practical education to the students so that they can reach great heights and attain maximum achievements in their life
  • The college runs a canteen inside the campus where staff and students can have meals and snacks prepared in a hygienic manner and at an affordable cost
  • Internet facilities may be availed by the students and teachers as per their needs.
  • State Government and the Central Government offers a number of scholarships to the meritorious students and the students belonging to SC / ST / OBC
  • A special complaint cell (Sexual Harassment Cell) has been formed for the female students in the college. Students can directly complain orally or by written application to the head of the cell.
  • The institute provides the training facility like- face to face interview, resume making, communication skills, that help the students to face the campus recruitment.
  • For every course, the college imparts practical training to its students that helps them to understand better, improve their demonstrative skills, eliminate hesitation and in this process strives to mold them into industry ready professionals.
  • The college also provides NCC training to its students. The NCC cadets attend different camps and earn pride for themselves and for the college.
  • The college Unit NSS Wing performs different type of social services within and outside of the area
  • The college maintains a "Students Welfare Fund" to provide financial help to the poor and deserving students, on application from such students, subject to the availability of funds.
