Kabi Nazrul College, Birbhum was established in 1985. Its affiliated to University of Burdwan.

The college is named after Kabi Nazrul,a rebel poet in the history of Bengali literature. This is a private aided college and accredited by National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC). The aim of the college is to provide quality education to the students. The curriculum, offered by this college is designed by the Boards of Studies of Burdwan University.

Kabi Nazrul College, in Murarai in the district of Birbhum was established in the year 1985 as lone institute of higher education in such a remote area where the light of proper education has not yet fully reached. It deserves special mention that all sections of people, the haves and the have-nots, have rendered yeoman’s service to the construction and development of the institutions situated mainly in a poverty stricken locality where most of the people are steeped in ittiteracy, ignorance and superstitions.The college emerged only with two rooms with a view to education the pupils coming from backward communities and working class people,most of whom were first generations learners. Murarai is situated near Jharkhand on the northern border of Birbhum district. Historically it is a socially and economically backward area.  Local legislator Mr. Bazle Ahmed was the first to take the initiative to establish an institution of higher education in his assembly area. As a consequence of his thought, the college came into being. On July 2, 1970 the State Minister for Public Works, Smt. Pratibha Mukherjee laid the foundation stone of Kabi Nazrul College. However, it was Dr. Motahar Hossain, who was the key person responsible for the making the dream a reality. On 13^th September 1985, Kabi Nazrul College (Degree) was established and the College got approval from Burdwan University in the year 1989.
