The Diploma in Pharmacy course was started in 1981 with the permission of the Govt. of Tamilnadu and Pharmacy Council of India, in a rented building on the Alakar Koil Road, Madurai. Within three years the management was able to move to its won spacious building, built as per the requirement of the Pharmacy council of India at Uthangudi in a rural background.

The institution is located within a short distance from the main road and the same time, faraway from the dust and din of the urban city making it conductive for academic pursuits. In 1985, the B.Pharm, degree course was started with affiliation from the Madurai Kamaraj University, Madurai. Subsequently.

The Institute came under the Tamilnadu Dr. M.G.R. Medical University for starting M.Pharm Degree course in the branches of Pharmaceutics, Pharmaceutical Chemistry and Pharmacognosy.
