K.L.E. Society’s Lingaraj College (Autonomous), Belagavi was established in 1933 under the management of K.L.E. Society, Belagavi and also the first collegiate institution in this society.

It is one of the premier institutions established to impart & provide in the field of higher education for the deserving candidates and prove to be a milestone in the part of progress.

The college is affiliated to Karnatak University, Dharwad and recognized by the University Grants Commission (UGC) under section 2(f) & 12(B) under Act, 1956. It also conferred the status of "College with Potential for Excellence" by the UGC in 2010.
 
It is re-accredited by National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) with "A" Grade - (CGPA Score 3.10 on a 4 Point Scale in 3rd Cycle) on 15th September 2016.

During the year 1930s and the 1940s, this was one of the two colleges in the entire North Karnataka after Pune and Mumbai. The college enjoyed the privilege and glory of high academic standards in those days.

It is a matter of pride and pleasure that Lingaraj College is conferred with Autonomous Status from June 2007 by the University Grants Commission, New Delhi, the Government of Karnataka and the Karnatak University, Dharwad.

With newly acquired academic and operative freedom, Lingaraj College is now offering programs of a higher standard and has redesigned the syllabi according to the changes in the employment market.

The Autonomous Status to the college has enabled them to prepare the students thoroughly well in professional skills and make them competitive in the changing educational scenario of the country and the world. This has helped us to create a higher degree of employability for the students.

It is the privilege of the Institution that the University Grants Commission, New Delhi has identiϐied the college for the second phase as the College with Potential for Excellence from 2014 to 2019.

Under this scheme, the college has taken up innovative teaching and learning techniques.

At present, the college offers three years undergraduate courses in Arts, Commerce, & Management streams under Karnatak University, Dharwad. It also offers two years postgraduate course in Commerce stream and offers various kind of Certificate courses.

The college has been recognized as the Research Centre by Rani Channamma University, Belagavi in January 2012. At present students are pursuing Ph.D. under the supervision of the members of the faculty of the Department of English, Economics, and Kannada.
