K.J. Somaiya Bharatiya Sanskriti Peetham College was established on 20th October 1989 and managed by Somaiya Trust, which was established on 9th September 1959.

It is one of the premier colleges established to impart & provide in the field of higher education for the deserving candidates and prove to be a milestone in the part of progress.

The college at present affiliated with the Kavi Kulaguru Kalidas Sanskrit University, Mumbai, formerly affiliated with the University of Mumbai, Mumbai and it is recognized by the University Grants Commission (UGC) under section 2(f) & 12(B) under Act, 1956.

The Institute is a part of Somaiya Vidyavihar, an educational society which has established institutions of higher learning.

The Somaiya Vidyavihar Sanstha has been established numbers of colleges/schools for the student in the region of Maharashtra and all over the India.

It is co-educational private institute, providing a regular course which is located in an urban part of Mumbai played a pioneering role in the field of higher education.

Since 1999, the Peetham is recognized by Kavi Kulaguru Kalidas Sanskrit University – statutory University established by the Government of Maharashtra- to conduct Diploma, Degree, Post Graduate Diploma, Masters  Degree and Ph.D. in Sanskrit and Yoga. It has been granted permanent recognition as a research center.

The Institute is recognized by the University of Mumbai as a research institute to guide students for Ph.D.

in Sanskrit, Comparative Study of Religion (Philosophy) and History.

The Government of Maharashtra accorded its recognition to the course of Peetham in 'Indian Culture and Values' also as a "Research Cultural Centre" in 1995.

At present, the college offers three years undergraduate & two years postgraduate courses in Arts stream with various specializations. It also offers various Certificate, Diploma, Post Graduate, and also Doctorate courses under Kavi Kulaguru Kalidas Sanskrit University, Mumbai.

The college is introduced the Study Abroad Programme in Management and Research for the students also the institute runs a variety of traditional and innovative courses.
