Jyoti Nivas College (Autonomous), Bengaluru Urban was established in 1966, is a minority Christian College founded by the Sisters of St. Joseph of Tarbes.

It is one of the premier institutions established to impart & provide in the field of higher education for the deserving candidates and prove to be a milestone on the part of progress.

The college is affiliated to Bangalore University, Bengaluru and recognized by the University Grants Commission (UGC) under section 2(f) on 31st July 1976 & 12(B) on 23rd August 194 under Act, 1956.

It is also recognized & approved by All India Council for Techincal Education (AICTE), New Delhi and re-accredited by National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) with "A" Grade - (CGPA Score 3.76 on a 4 Point Scale in 3rd Cycle) on 10th March 2012.

Since its inception in 1966, Jyoti Nivas College has remained steadfast to one central commitment, to provide a balanced comprehensive education in the Liberal Arts, Science, and Commerce, aimed at turning out intellectually enlightened, morally upright, spiritually oriented and socially committed young persons.

The college was conferred with 5-star status in 1999 in the First Cycle of Accreditation by NAAC. Jyoti Nivas was one of the only ten colleges in Bangalore to be conferred with the Autonomous status by UGC in June 2004.

It also conferred the status of "College with Potential for Excellence" by the UGC in 2004.

In June 2014, they started the prestigious Bachelor of Vocational (B.Voc,) degree courses (Banking & Finance and Visual Communication & Performing Arts) initiated by the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India, and the University Grants Commission.

At present, the college offers three years undergraduate and two years postgraduate courses in Arts, Science, Commerce, & Management streams under Bangalore University, Bengaluru. It also offers various kind of Certificate & Add-On courses.

The college also has a Contact Centre of Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU), New Delhi to offers various kind of courses.

University examinations of different courses, examinations conducted by the Bangalore University, Bengaluru, and various other examinations are held in the college premises.

The admission criteria for the college is submit the online applications, attend the interview/counseling as per the schedules intimated through call letters send via email and shortlisted applicants after the interview can proceed with the remaining admission formalities.
