JSS College of Arts, Commerce, and Science, Mysuru was established in 1964. It is one among more than 350 institutions run by JSS Mahavidyapeetha.

It is one of the premier institutions established to impart & provide in the field of higher education for the deserving candidates and prove to be a milestone in the part of progress.

The college is an Autonomous College of University of Mysore, Mysuru and recognized by the University Grants Commission (UGC) under section 2(f) & 12(B) under Act, 1956.

The college is also recognized by UGC as "College with Potential for Excellence" (CPE).
 
It is re-accredited by National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) with "A" Grade - (CGPA Score 3.04 on a 4 Point Scale in 2nd Cycle) on 5th May 2014.

It is a co-educational private college, providing regular courses in which is located in the urban part of Mysuru played a pioneering role in the field of higher education.

Department of Biotechnology Government of India has identified this college for support under 'Star College Scheme'. It is running Biotechnology Finishing School sanctioned by Government of Karnataka. Which prepares Industry ready post graduate.

The college has been functioning as an autonomous college from the academic year 2005-06. The distinctive features of autonomy are that the college is empowered to frame the syllabi, introduce new courses and conduct examinations independently. The degree is awarded by the University of Mysore.

The college is situated on a sprawling 7.08 acres plot with a spacious building and a hostel in a picturesque surrounding at the foot of Chamundi Hills. The third floor of the existing building created additional space to meet the growing needs of the college.

Apart from Science, Arts and Commerce courses, the institution offers inter - disciplinary courses in Business Management, Sericulture, Electronics, Computer Science, Computer Maintenance, Instrumentation, Biochemistry, Biotechnology and Microbiology.

The college also offers Master's degree in Social Work (MSW), M.Sc.

in Physics, Chemistry, Computer Science, Biochemistry and Bio-Technology, Commerce,  Kannada, English and PG Diploma Courses in Animation and Visual Effects, HRE, BTFS, Sharana Sahitya and HRM, and also a number of Career Oriented Courses such as Animation and Visual Effects, Computerised Accounting, Insurance Management & Tourism and so on.

Post-Graduate Department of Social Work, Biotechnology and Biochemistry have been recognized as Research Centres by the University of Mysore.

University examinations of different courses, examinations conducted by the University of Mysore, Mysuru, and various other examinations are held in the college premises.
