About Jorhat College (Amalgamated)
Jorhat College (Amalgamated), Jorhat was established in 1962. It is one of the premier institution in the region of Jorhat.
The college is affiliated to Dibrugarh University, Dibrugarh and recognized by the University Grants Commission (UGC) under section 2(f) & 12(B) Act, 1956. It is accredited by National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC).
Brief History:
Jorhat College (Amalgamated) is an Arts & Science college of co-education. The name by itself commemorates the history of amalgamationo of two different colleges, viz., Jorhat College and New Jorhat College.
The amalgamation took place in 1970, but both of its constituents being established in 1952, the college may now rightly claim to have completed 54 years of its existence. It celebrated its Golden Jubilee in 2012.
It is a unique institution specialising in the humanities, with the facility of Major Courses in as many as eight subjects, viz., Assamese, Economics. Education, English, History, Philosophy, Political Science and Sociology.
In H.S. level besides the above subjects, Physics, Chemistry, Zoology, Botany, Geology, Statistics and Maths are taught in Arts and Science Streams respectively. In addition, the college runs a computer literacy programme for all students, besides conducting a self-financing course in computer application (DTP / OFFICE) and several other skill based vocational courses from time to time.
The college offers two years Higher Secondary Courses in Arts & Science stream under Assam Higher Secondary Educational Council (AHSEC), Guwahati and three years Degree Courses in Arts & Science stream under Dibrugarh University, Dibrugarh and also offers some Career Oriented Courses / Add On Course.
Rules and Regulations at Jorhat College (Amalgamated), Jorhat:
- Use of Mobile Phones by students inside the college campus is strictly limited to canteen & Boys / girts common rooms, but only after getting written permission by paying necessary fees, using it in other areas of the college would invite punishment mobile in exam hall possessing lead to expulsion & fine
- Students must keep the college campus and building clean
- Chewing betel-nut, pan, tobacco and various types of pan-masala like Gutkha, Sikhar etc. inside the campus is strictly prohibited. Any violation of this rule will be heavily dealt with
- Students Societies and Associations shall be subject to the approval and the guidance and control of the college administration. Such Societies and Associations as have been recognized by the administration, shall only have the facilities of the college premises
- The pasting or circulation of any notice or bulletin by the students anywhere in the college shall require the prior approval of the Principal
- No person shall be invited to address a meeting in the college without the prior permission of the college authority
- All bonafide students of the college will be given Identity Cards which must be wear all the time in the college premises
- Students shall keep their bicycles, scooters or motor-cycles locked only in the sheds provided for this purpose. ONLY LICENCE-HOLDERS WOULD BE ALLOWED TO BRING SCOOTERS / MOTOR-CYCLES TO COLLEGE. NO STUDENTS WILL BE ALLOWED TO BRING CARS TO COLLEGE
- The students admitted to the college must abide by all the rules and regulations of the college. Violation of rules, irregular attendance, irregular clearance of college dues, showing discourtesy to the teachers and staff members in any form, adoption of unfair means in Examinations are some of the offences which may make students liable to face the Disciplinary Committee for disciplinary action, leading to termination of scholarship, forced transfer and even expulsion from the college
- The college has an attractive campus situated in secured and serene atmosphere suitable for learning with Young, dynamic faculty and non-teaching staff
- The college has well-equipped with all modern facilites like classrooms, library, laboratories, computer centre, seminar halls, reading rooms, canteen, hostel etc.
- The college campus is eco-friendly and free from outside disturbance which provides a congenial atmosphere for study
- The college has a rich computerized library with reading room facility & provides good number of books (both text and reference) on various subjects to meet the needs of the students as well as the teachers. Daily Newspapers and selected journals are also regularly subscribed
- The college has the facility of a Book Bank for the benefit of the poor students. It is a provision for lending text books only to economically backward students on merit basis.
- he college has limited hostel facility for girls within the college campus. At present the number of seats is 35. Application form for hostel admission may be collected from college Office at the time of admission and must be submitted to the College Office within a week of admission
- The college canteen provides the students with light refreshment at a reasonably cheap rate in a hygienic condition and arranges for pure drinking water in the college campus
- Free Wi-Fi and internet facility is provided to the students in the college to the students and teachers as per their needs
- The college has a Medical Cell which organizes a Health Day annually for the health check-up of the newly admitted students. The findings of the check-up are recorded in the students' database as well as in the Health Card issued to the students. Besides, the cell provides the students, teachers and employees of the College with the facility of free medical check-up twice a month
- The college has established an Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) to assure the quality of the college
- State Government and the Central Government offers a number of scholarships to the meritorious students and the students belonging to SC / ST / OBC
- Seminars are organized at departmental levels from time to time to enrich the level of knowledge of the students in the relevant field
- The college offers as far as possible adequate facilities of games and sports for both boys and girls. The facility of a multigym, a synthetic Basketball Court and synthetic Badminton Court is available in the campus.
- The Students Union annually publishes a magazine which gives the students the opportunity to develop their literary talent.
- Besides the annual magazine, the students union also publishes a quarterly Wall-Magazine. Various departments also publish their Journals / Wall Magazines etc., on their own.
