Jamalpur Mahavidyalaya is the dream of the people of the Jamalpur block and the adjoining blocks of Memari, Raina and Dhaniakhali as the rural community here had little scope for getting higher education and had longed for a degree college in the vicinity of Jamalpur for years. The idea for the college was conceived in a convention held in the premises of Jamalpur High School where more than 500 enthusiasts had met with this longing in mind. Following the resolution taken in the convention the Jamalpur Thana Gram Unnayan Society, a registered organisation devoted to social works was entrusted with the task of taking the initial steps of organizing the college and Jamalpur Mahavidyalaya was established, having been recognised by the government of West Bengal with effect from the academic session of 2009-2010 and affiliated to the University of Burdwan from 5th March, 2010.
The college building currently stands on the Burdwan-Jamalpur Road via Jaugram and the Burdwan-Tarakeswar Road via Memari. Our journey has been blest by earnest well-wishers who have helped in procuring land and in the construction of the college building. Under the able guidance of its administrative body, the college is making its way towards achieving academic excellence.
Jamalpur Mahavidyalaya, a government aided degree college affiliated to the University of Burdwan since July, 2009, has been stepping up towards rapid development among the young evolving colleges.
