Jagiroad College, Morigaon (erstwhile Kapili Anchalik Mahavidyalaya) was established on 8th August, 1979. It is one of the premier instituion in the region of Morigan District.
The college is affiliated to Dibrugarh University, Dibrugarh and recognized by University Grants Commission (UGC) under section 2(f) & 12(B) Act, 1956. It is accredited by National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) with "B" Grade (2.71 CGPA).
The college is located at Jagiroad, a gradually developing semi-urban conglomeration of Morigaon district of Assam, at a distance of barely one hundred meters from the National Highway 37.
The serene campus, spread over a spacious area of twenty-five bighas of land, is nestled by the picturesque Sonaikuchi Hill. Culturally it lies very close to Na-Khola the abode of the Prince Regent of the ancient Kingdom of the Tiwas - one of the tribes of the state endowed with its distinctive indigenous life-world. Jagiroad College was established by a group of foresighted and committed social-workers of the region.
Shri Mahendra Ahom, the founder Principal and presently the President of the college Governing Body played a pivotal role for seventeen years in the development of the College through his enthusiasm, vigorous spirit and generous approach.
The college was able to attract students from the surrounding rural hinterlands who were mostly “first generation” learners and belonged to socio-economically disadvantaged and marginalized communities primarily because of his dynamic leadership.
The college offers two years Higher Secondary Courses in Arts & Science stream under Assam Higher Secondary Educational Council (AHSEC), Guwahati and three years Degree Courses in Arts, Science & Commerce stream under Gauhati University, Guwahati and also offers some Career Oriented Courses / Add On Course.
The college also has a Contact Centre of Institute of Distance and Open Learning (IDOL), Gauhati University for PG courses. Besides this, the college is running a Study Centre of Krishna Kanta Handiqui State Open University (KKHSOPU), Guwahat.
Vision:
By evolving its own quality assurance and sustenance mechanism the college would strive to achieve academic excellence – while drawing its resources from both the indigenous knowledge base and the ICT based global knowledge expansion process. It would also align its paradigms towards sustainable development, peace and conflict resolution and vertical mobility of the learners belonging mostly to socio – economically disadvantaged section of the society in order to foster national development and regional harmony.
