Iswar Chandra Vidyasagar College (Belonia College) is one of the oldest college was established in 1964. Its affiliation to the University of Calcutta.

Iswar Chandra Vidyasagar College "(formerly Belonia College) is one of the oldest college among 22 general degree colleges of Tripura. It is situated in South Tripura District and about 90 Kms away from Agartala, the capital of Tripura. It has been in the fore-front among the colleges in advancement of education and other curricular activities. The college has been established on 22nd May, 1964 and under the affiliation to the University of Calcutta. The college is located on semi urban grassy campus and spread over vast stretch of land measuring about 33 acres ar a stone throwing distance from Indo-Bangla international border. The campus is about 2.5 Kiolometers away from the Sub-Divisional town and the atmospjere is serene, free from the hear and dust of the town. The capus provides calm and pleasant environment to the knowledge seeking learners dedicating their life for academic development. The college is competent enough to develop social-economic, moral and cultural values. It enables the learners to maintain the human values.

The NAAC has accredited this college 'B' grade. The various courses on science, arts and commerce faculties are taught in this college. As many as 22 courses are available in science, arts and commerce faculties. Honours courses are available in 17 different subjects i.e., English, Bengali, Sankrit, Philosophy, Geography, Political Science, History, Education, Economics, Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, Zoology, Botany, Physiology and Accounting. Intake capacity of students in the honours courses of arts and commerce departments as approved by Tripura University is between 50 and 80 varying on the nature of subjects while for science departments the approved strength is 25.

Total number of students at present in about 3300 approx and the number of faculties is 57 barring the principal. About 31% of the total students comprises ST and SCs.

Initially when the college was established it was run by private management with entire fund coming through contribution, gift and donation etc. Available history show that the urge enthusiam and commitment of the local people for higher education were the impeccable factors that led to the establishment of this college in Belonia, which happens to be first in South Tripura District. The college got sponsorship from the Government in October, 1973. The College was taken over by the State Government on 01.01.1982. The College remained affiliated to the University of Calcutta till 1987 as there was no University in Tripura. Since 1987 the college came under the purview of Tripura University's affiliation along with other Govt. Colleges. A good number of alumnus are working in different fields with good reputation and fame both inside the state, the country as well. It is expected that the college will reach the zenith of academic field very soon. The natural environment, the teaching power and the co-operation of the non teaching staffs are determined to bring out changes in the overall development of the teaching environment and the college itself.

Iswar Chandra Vidyasagar Collee Central Library is housed in a two storied building covering an area of 25,000 Sq.ft. This library was started with the establishment in 1964 in order to cater the academic and research needs of the faculty, research scholars, studetns and staffs. Now we are using library automation software E-Granthalaya online cloudl version - 4 for automation of library services. There are very reach collection about various subjects.
