About International Centre for Distance Education and Open Learning (ICDEOL)
International Centre for Distance Education and Open Learning (ICDEOL), Shimla was established in 1971 under Himachal Pradesh University, Shimla.
It is one of the premier institutions established to impart & provide in the field of higher education for the deserving candidates and prove to be a milestone in the part of progress.
The college is a constituent part & affiliated to Himachal Pradesh University, Shimla to offer undergraduate & postgraduate courses in Arts stream and recognized by the University Grants Commission (UGC) under section 2(f) & 12(B) under Act, 1956. It is also approved by All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), New Delhi.
It is also recognized & approved by National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE), Jaipur to offer Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.) course. It is accredited by National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) with "A" Grade - (in 3rd Cycle) on 5th November 2016.
Immediately after its establishment in 1970, the Himachal Pradesh University, Shimla took a bold step towards the proliferation of knowledge and democratization of educational opportunities by setting up a Directorate of Correspondence Courses in 1971.
The University has played a pioneering role in launching the program of distance education at the postgraduate level. It was the first to impart instruction at postgraduate level in social sciences, humanities, commerce and teacher training through the mode of distance education.
Research studies at M.Phil. a level was also introduced through this medium in the various disciplines. Over the years, the Directorate of Correspondence Courses moved towards absorbing the emerging philosophy of distance education and adopting a multi-media approach to impart instruction.
In view of this, the Directorate of Correspondence Courses has now been rechristened as the International Centre for Distance Education and Open Learning (ICDEOL). It is located in the H.P. University complex at Summer Hill, a suburb at the western end of Shimla, 5 Km from the main town.
Summer Hill Railway Station is 5 minutes walk from the ICDEOL complex.

- State of the Art Laboratories with sufficient space and all the necessary equipment are made available to various departments
- The college has taken up the responsibility of imparting necessary, effective and practical education to the students so that they can reach great heights and attain maximum achievements in their life
- The college runs a canteen inside the campus where staff and students can have meals and snacks prepared in a hygienic manner and at an affordable cost
- Internet & Wi-Fi facilities may be availed by the students and teachers as per their needs
- Transportation facility is available for the students
- The college has a significant presence in the field of research. A number of major & minor research projects are awarded to the faculty members by the UGC and other bodies.
- The college also has a hostel with providing all the facilities, security and good atmosphere, best suited for studies of the boys & girls coming from far-off places.
- The college has a large playground with will-equipment for different sports like Cricket, Football, Volleyball, Hockey, Badminton and so on
- A medical facility has been available in the college for the benefit of the students
- State Government and Central Government offers a number of scholarships to the meritorious students and the students belonging to SC / ST / OBC
- A special complaint cell (Sexual Harassment Cell) has been formed for the female students in the college. Students can directly complain orally or by written application to the head of the cell. Apart from this, Ragging is strictly prohibited on the college campus
- The institution has provided ICT facilities like computers, projectors, audio-visual gadgets, scanners and printers to the departments and also other aids and a huge number of availability of books for effective delivery of curriculum and for inculcating the knowledge of the subject
- To sharpen the skill of students and their personality development, various curricular and extra-curricular activities are the regular features of the institution
- The college also organizes workshops, seminars, and conferences for improving teaching skills and methodology
- The college consists Women Cell to help female students. This cell helps and guides girls to sort out from their personal problem and avoid them from any harassment
