The College, set up in 1960 and affiliated to the University of Calcutta, has 6 science departments, namely Physics, Chemistry, Computer Science, Mathematics, Statistics & Economics, all teaching at the honours level. It has two humanities departments - English and History - which teach honours. Besides, there are departments of Bengali, Political Science, Sanskrit, Biology, Hindi, Philosophy and Sanskrit. The college also offers Post Graduate (M.Sc.) courses in Physics and Chemistry. There is also a dedicated Research and Development wing for active Researches in Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics and Computer Science.
