Institute of Hotel Management, Catering Technology & Applied Nutrition, Hajipur was established in 1997 after upgradation of earlier Food Craft Institute, Patna Society which was established in 1982 by Department of Tourism under Ministry of Tourism & Civil Aviation, Govt. of India.

IHM , Hajipur is academically affiliated to National Council for Hotel Management & Catering Technology, New Delhi. 

Food Craft Institute was managed by the Govt. of India till 1987 and onwards 1987 it was handed over to Govt. of Bihar, for further operation.

Food Craft Institute was a registered Society under the Society Registration Act 1860.

Institute of Hotel Management, Catering Technology & Applied Nutrition, Hajipur is an autonomous body and is a Registered Society  under the Society Registration Act 1860. Its affairs are looked after by Board of Governors.

The institute like rest of the 28 institutes in the country is jointly sponsored by the Government of India under Ministry of Tourism and the Govt. of Bihar under Department of Tourism .
