Indira Gandhi Women's College, Cuttack was established in 1980 as an Intermediate college was continued and was upgraded as a degree college on 1st September 1982 and founded by Sj. Asirbad Behera.
It is one of the premier colleges established to impart & provide in the field of higher education for the deserving candidates and prove to be a milestone in the part of progress.
It is affiliated with the Utkal University, Bhubaneswar and it is recognized by the University Grants Commission (UGC) under section 2(f) & 12(B) on 24th June 2004 under Act, 1956.
It is re-accredited by National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) with "B" Grade (CGPA Score 2.13 on a 4 Point Scale in 2nd Cycle) on 10th December 2014.
The college was formerly known as Cuttack City Women’s College with an Intermediate course in Arts and started in the in the premises of Mansinghpatna Municipal High School.
Later following the demise of Smt. Indira Gandhi, the late Prime Minister of India and one of the greatest epoch-making woman leaders of the world, the college Governing Body most appropriately decided to name the college as Indira Gandhi Women’s College.
The college grew its wings under the aegis of the Teachers Training College which had also been established here earlier by Sj. Asirbad Behera. For a short period of time, the college functioned at Sanatnalini Girls High School after having shifted from the premises of Mansinghpatna Municipal High School in 1986.
It is a woman private Institute, providing a regular course which is located in a rural part of a Cuttack played a pioneering role in the field of higher education.
The college conferred the status of grant-in-aid college that the fees and all the facilities for the students are fixed by the government. The student's admission is done as per the admission criteria prescribed by the Utkal University, Bhubaneswar.
This college has conferred as the status as "College with Potential for Excellence (CPE)" and the best college by their Utkal University, Bhubaneswar. Also numbers of an award in publication, offering scholarship also awarded by the different societies.
The college offers two years intermediate courses in Arts and Science streams with various specializations under Council of Higher Secondary Education, Odisha.
The college also offers three years undergraduate courses in Arts streams with various specializations under Utkal University, Bhubaneswar.
