Institute of Media Studies, Bhubaneswar was popularly known as IMS, Bhubaneswar was established in 1994 and founded by the inspired group of eminent intellectuals and journalists of Odisha with support and encouragement from the State Government.

It is one of the premier colleges established to impart & provide in the field of higher education for the deserving candidates and prove to be a milestone on the part of progress.

It is affiliated with the Utkal University, Bhubaneswar and it is recognized by the University Grants Commission (UGC) under section 2(f) & 12(B) under Act, 1956.

It is a co-educational private Institute, providing a regular course which is located in a rural part of a Bhubaneswar played a pioneering role in the field of higher education.

Since its inception, it has been producing trained media, social, financial and industrial professionals while the institute has blossomed into a center of excellence in media studies as well as in social and management studies.

The bulk of collection covers was available in Journalism and Mass Communication, Social Work, management, PMIR, finance and computers with nine subscribed Journals & magazines.

IMS has set up the Centre for Rural Development (CRD), a developmental resource centre with a full-fledged academic wing. It produces better business and computer professionals by imparting courses like personnel management and industrial relation, advanced diploma in digital multimedia and master in finance and control like courses. 

The college offers four courses of two years postgraduate courses in Master of Journalism & Mass Communication (MJMC), Master of Social Work (MSW), Master of Commerce (Finance & Control) (M.COM), and Master in Personnel Management and Industrial Relations (PMIR) under Utkal University, Bhubaneswar.
