Indore School of Social Work, Indore was committed to excellence in its teaching, research and professional practice in Social Work. The institute was an autonomous institution established in 1951 and managed by Indore Christian College.
It is one of the premier Institutions established to impart & provide in the field of higher education for the deserving candidates and prove to be a milestone in the part of progress.
The Institute is affiliated with Devi Ahilya Vishwavidyalaya, Indore and recognized by the University Grants Commission (UGC) under section 2(f) & 12(B) under Act, 1956.
The aim of the college was to inculcate these areas of scholarly knowledge, skills, and attitudes in the students for the effective practice of social work.
The Institute that has become an iconic institution in the field of Social Work and Human Resource Management education. This college also provides adult education and development programs.
It is a co-educational self-financed private institute, providing a regular course which is located in an urban part of Indore played a pioneering role in the field of higher education.
History of the college:
In 1955, the Board of Governors of the Indore Christian College invited Dr. (Mrs.) Winifred Bryce, a well-known sociologist, educationist and social worker and a former Principal of Indore Christian College to head the School.
Under her leadership, the school was raised to the graduate diploma standard offering a one-year course in Social Work.
The next important milestone in the development of the School was the raising of it as a postgraduate department of the Indore Christian College with affiliation to the Vikram University, Ujjain for the Degree of Master of Arts in Social Work in 1961.
In 1964, when the University of Indore (Devi Ahilya Vishwavidyalaya, Indore) was established at Indore, the Indore Christian College, and through it the School of Social Work, was disaffiliated from the Vikram University, Ujjain and affiliated to the University of Indore.
From 1961 to 1966, the School continued as Department of Indore Christian College.
In 1966 the school was established as an independent body under a separate Governing Board.
On 1st January 1972, the school shifted to the new building at 13 Old Sehore Road in the residency area of Indore.
The school is grateful to the Board of World Mission (now the Division of World Outreach) of the United Church of Canada, who gave a generous grant for the construction of the school building.
The Institute offers certification courses of three years and two years Bachelors degree courses and offers two years Master degree courses with various specialization in Social Work. It also offers M.Phil and Ph.D. program with the various specialization in Social Work.
Apart from that the Institute also offers Bachelor of Vocational (B.Voc) to the students who have minimum educational qualification required for a candidate to join B. Voc courses is HSC (12th standard) pass, and for the one-year diploma, in Geriatric Care the minimum qualification is SSC (10th standard) pass.
The Institute has received various awards in arts, culture, academic and social work under Devi Ahilya Vishwavidyalaya, Indore.
It has become a nodal agency for Childline project supported by Ministry of Women and Child Development, Government of India and to many of the action projects for the protection and promotion of child rights by UNICEF.
The evaluation projects undertaken by the college have been used in their policy formulation by National Literacy Mission, Ministry of Rural Development and Ministry of Social Justice.
