About Indian Institute of Science Education and Research Berhampur
Indian Institute of Science Education and Research Berhampur also referred as IISER Berhampur or IISER-BPR is a public research and education institute in Berhampur, Odisha, India.
It was established by the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India in 2016 in order to promote Higher Scientific Learning and Research as well as Scientific Exploration at the Undergraduate and Postgraduate levels of education and to create Scientists and Academicians of the highest quality.
IISER Berhampur is recognized an Institute of National Importance by the Government of India. This new institute will start functioning from the academic year 2016-17 in the month of August. IISER Bhopal will mentor this institute till a new director is appointed.
ISSER Berhampur offers Bachelor of Science-Master of Science (BS-MS)-(Dual Degree) Programme. It is a five-year dual degree program for bright and motivated science students who have passed class XII.
The program integrates classroom learning with research and provides ample scope for multidisciplinary interactions. The first two years of the programme consist of core courses in basic sciences, the third and fourth years are dedicated to specialization in chosen science subjects and the fifth year includes a research project.
The training during the programme enables students to pursue a career in academia, R&D Institutes, and science-based industries.
About IISERs:
Indian Institutes of Science Education and Research (IISERs) were created in 2006 through a proclamation of Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India, to promote quality education and research in basic sciences.
Soon after the announcement, two of these Institutes at Pune and Kolkata, respectively, was started in 2006. This was followed by an Institute at Mohali (2007) and at Bhopal and Trivandrum in 2008.
Each IISER is a degree-granting autonomous institution with a prime focus to integrate science education and research, with a motive of attracting bright students and world-class faculty.
The seven IISERs have been established across the country, namely
- IISER Kolkata in West Bengal (2006)
- IISER Pune in Maharashtra (2006)
- IISER Mohali in Punjab (2007)
- IISER Bhopal in Madhya Pradesh (2008)
- ISER Thiruvananthapuram in Kerala (2008)
- IISER Tirupati in Andhra Pradesh (2015)
- IISER Berhampur in Odisha (2016)
- IISER Nagaland (2015)
Indian Institute of Science Education and Research Bhopal will provide a platform for the faculty to engage in high-quality pedagogy, at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels, and perform cutting-edge research in frontier areas of basic sciences.
The Institute is also committed to impart high moral and ethical values to students and create a genuine concern for social and environmental issues. With these set of broad objectives, it is believed that IISER Berhampur will emerge as a world-class Institute within a few years of its inception.

- A special complaint cell (Sexual Harassment Cell) has been formed for the female students in the college. Students can directly complain orally or by written application to the head of the cell. Apart from this, Ragging is strictly prohibited on the college campus
