Established in 1987, Institute of Hotel Management, Gwalior is also called IHM Gwalior. The institute is an autonomous body that provides education in the field of the hospitality industry.
It is under the governance of the Ministry of Tourism, Government of Madhya Pradesh and the Ministry of Tourism, Government of India. It is one of the 21 Central Institutes that are sponsored by the Ministry of Tourism, Govt. of India.
Accredited by the International Accreditation Organization (IAO), Institute of Hotel Management, Gwalior is affiliated to the National Council for Hotel Management and Catering Technology (NCHMCT), Noida.
Institute of Hotel Management, Gwalior aims at providing to the student's knowledge and skills in a suitable learning environment, so that the students can combat the challenges hurled at them when they are out to work in the global hospitality industry.
In 1987, Institute of Hotel Management, Gwalior was first established as Food Craft Institute. In 1992, it was later converted to Institute of Hotel Management, Gwalior.
IHM Gwalior provides undergraduate, diploma and add-on certificate courses in the field of hotel management. Its B.Sc. programme has 250 students and its food production program which awards a diploma has 80 students, to which admissions are provided on a yearly basis. This makes it one of the largest institutes in the sector of hotel management in India.
Institute of Hotel Management, Gwalior also offers distance education in hotel management under Indira Gandhi National Open University, New Delhi.
As per the survey conducted by GHRDC, IHM Gwalior has been ranked sixth in the category of Top Govt. IHMs in India, first in the Central Region and also first in the state of Madhya Pradesh.
Admission to the courses is conducted through the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE). This is followed by counseling by IGNOU, New Delhi and National Council for Hotel Management & Catering Technology, Noida on merit basis.
