Government College of Education, Aurangabad was established in 1954 cater the need of training of untrained-teachers working in secondary education institutions (high-schools) in Maharashtra.

It is also named as Institute for Advanced Studies in Education (IASE), Aurangabad. The Govt. College of Education (IASE) Aurangabad is one of the oldest and reputed teacher's training institutions.

Government College of Education, Aurangabad upgraded as an Institute of Advanced Studies in Education (IASE) by Ministry of Human Resources Development, New Delhi.

It is one of the premier colleges established to impart & provide in the field of higher education for the deserving candidates and prove to be a milestone in the part of progress.

The college is affiliated with Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Marathwada University, Aurangabad and it is recognized by the University Grants Commission (UGC) under section 2(f) & 12(B) under Act, 1956.

It is also recognized and approved by National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE), Bhopal for B.Ed M.Ed and D.Ed courses and re-accredited by National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) with "A" Grade (in 2nd Cycle) on 1st May 2015.

The main aim of the college is determined to provide the quality education to the future teachers. It is co-educational government college, providing a regular course in which is located in the urban part of Aurangabad played a pioneering role in the field of higher education.

The college offers two years Bachelor of Education (B.Ed) courses for those who have completed their graduation with minimum aggregate of 50% from any recognized university are eligible to apply for this course.

Students here are admitted who completed their graduation from recognized university with at least 50% marks in major or in aggregate at the Degree level.

But Scheduled Castes (S.C.), Scheduled Tribes (S.T.) & (O.B.C) candidates are to be entitled with a relaxation 5% marks ineligibility for admission.

The college offers two years Master of Education (M.Ed.) course for those who have completed their Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.) with the minimum aggregate of 50% from any recognized university are eligible to apply for this course.

Students here are admitted who completed their graduation in Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.) from a recognized university with at least 50% marks in major or in aggregate at the graduation level. But Scheduled Castes (S.C.), Scheduled Tribes (S.T.) & (O.B.C) candidates are to be entitled with a relaxation 5% marks ineligibility for admission.

The college also offers two years Diploma in Education (D.Ed.) course for those who have completed their intermediate with the minimum aggregate of 50% from any recognized college/university under the affiliating to Maharashtra State Council of Education Research & Training, Pune.

Students here are admitted who completed their intermediate from recognized college/university with at least 50% marks in major or in aggregate at the intermediate level. But Scheduled Castes (S.C.), Scheduled Tribes (S.T.) & (O.B.C) candidates are to be entitled with a relaxation 5% marks ineligibility for admission.

Apart from these courses, the college also has a Contact Centre of Yashwantrao Chavan Maharashtra Open University (YCMOU), Nashik to offer B.Ed. M.Ed, Diploma, & Add-On Certificate Courses through distance mode.
