Hiralal Mazumdar Memorial College for Women, Kolkata was established in 1959.

Hiralal Mazumdar Memorial College for Women, Dakshineswar little known amid several premier institutes in and around Kolkata, has emerged as a centre of learning experience with a difference. Branded as a B++ Graded College in 2016 by NAAC, we are now striving for excellence and to elevate ourselves further. We aim to transform the institution into a hub of emancipation for the girls' who flock to the campus from adjoining suburban and rural belts of hooghly, Howrah and North 24 Parganas.

The idea of imparting education to the women folk of the area was conceived nearly six decades ago in 1959. The road ahead was bumpy, clouded with challenges; yet our zeal to strive for a noble cause continued unabated, with the dream of elevating the college at least to the state level. We embraced the ideals of discipline, determination and dedication as basic principles that would not only help students to spread the wings of their desire but also gradualy guide us to the path of perfection with honesty integrity and humility. Our mission is to educate, empower and emancipate in comliance to the needs of the society. We are keen on grooming students in application oriented; need based learning to improve their cognizance beyond the norms of classroom teaching. A resourceful library equipped with technological facility (INFLIBNET) in addition to seminar libraries attached to each department is an added advantage for academic pursuance of students. Organizing Seminars both National and International, Quiz contests, debates, "Saraswat Charchachakra an academic Club" are steps to sustain the academic ambience in the college.

Presently the college offers advanced courses in 18 including Honors in Urdu and general courses in 26 subjects including B.Com. The Arts faculty contains a unique combination of Arts and Humanities discipline.

The department of Political Science, Sociology, History, Philosopy, Music, Journalism and mass media are all proven leaders in their respective fields. They combine with outstanding department of English, Sanskrit, Bengali and Urdu. Our ethos is built arouhd our commitment to furthering knowledge at undergraduate and PG level stimulated by original research and effective collaboration Government and public services.

The Science faculty carries out research and teaching in Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Zoology, Botany, Physiology, Food and Nutrition, Computer Science and Psychology. In all areas we aim to advance knowledge and its application to improve the quality of life. We believe that a dynamic research and pedagogic environment is essential to promote academic excellence. In addition to well equipped laboratories the college has a well stocked library and computers for students.

The commerce wing of the college is new and is expected to take off in 2018-19 academic session. The department Boost of erudite scholars and is charged to churn out qualified bachelors in the stream.

Along with conventional subjects in Arts and Science we have recently made a foray into applied subjects like Physiology, Electronics, Woman's studies, Environmental Studies etc. Apart from honing knowledge based skill, there is wide opportunity for choosing vocatonal courses in Pharmaceutical Management, Agricultual Biotechnology and Industrial Microbiology run in collaboration with Guru Nank Institute of Pharmaceutical Science and Technology (GNIPST) to increase viability of students in the job market. Added to it we have certificate courses in Communicative English and Computer Literacy and different skill development courses run in collaboration and under able guidance of Rashikbhita, Sarada Math, Dakshineswar, to transform each student to eligible human resource.

A Gymnasium for the fitness freak generation. 'Yoga' session to enhance concentration power, music sessions, a students' health home for screening health of students regularly, psychological counselling, Innovative cell, NSS, NCC Units exist as a support system to promote an all inclusive growth of our students.

Our impressive range of academic resources, stimulating research, cultural opportunities and links with creative industries provide a dynamic platform for developing tablets of a vibrant group of staffs and students from different parts of West Bengal. The Principal, resourceful teachers and cooperative office staff all club to the best of their ability to promote the development of each student of the college.
