Hemo Prova Borbora (HPB) Girls College, Golaghat was established in 1969 under Dibrugarh University, Dibrugarh.

The college is affiliated to Dibrugarh University, Dibrugarh and recognized by the University Grants Commission under section 2(f) & 12(B) Act, 1956. It is accredited by National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) with "B" Grade (2.71 CGPA) in the year 2012.

Brief History:

In the process of establishing the college a noble-minded donor Late Alok Chandra Borbora came forward and offered Rs. 75,000/- in the glorious memory of his mother Late Hemo Prova Borbora.

The prime objective of establishing the college was to foster the advancement of higher Education among females in the rural areas of Golaghat District. The first batch started in the Boarding House of Golaghat Government Bezbaruah Higher Secondary School on 22-7-1969. Thus it had a humble beginning with only twenty six girl students.

Later the college was shifted to its present place where it has been growing with permanent structures. The college is permanently affiliated to Dibrugarh University, Dibrugarh as well as registered under vide UGC letter No. 825/78 CP dated 19.1.1978 of University Grants Commission.

It has made significant strides in its development to become one of the pioneer colleges in the district imparting instructions in almost all arts subjects including Major Courses in both Higher Secondary and Undergraduate levels.   

The college has seen remarkable growth over the years. And, today it is not only one of the most distinguished graduate educational institutions in the  district , but is also, by many accounts, the college of first choice in many subjects. It boasts of an accomplished faculty of thirty one members, and more than one thousand students. The college is also proud of its efficient and very supportive non-academic staff.

The college also has a rich collection of books and journals in its library, the NSS and NCC Rooms, etc.

Spread over 14.19 acres of land, the College premises are housed in one of the beautiful locations of Golaghat, well connected by road and train.

The college offers two years Higher Secondary Courses in Arts stream under Assam Higher Secondary Educational Council (AHSEC), Guwahati and three years Degree Courses in Arts stream under Dibrugarh University, Dibrugarh and also offers some Career Oriented Courses / Add On Course.

The college also has a Contact Centre of Institute of Distance and Open Learning (IDOL), Gauhati University for PG courses. Besides this, the college is running a Study Centre of Krishna Kanta Handiqui State Open University (KKHSOPU), Guwahat.
