Hans Raj Mahila Maha Vidyalaya, Jalandhar was an oldest institution established in 1927 at Lahore in the sacred memory of Maharishi Dayanand Saraswati, along with the Vedic traditions to the youth of contemporary India.

It was a part of the great chain of D.A.V. Institutes managed by DAV College Managing Committee (DAVCMC) is the largest non-governmental organization in the field of education in India today.

The college is affiliated with Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar and it is recognized by the University Grants Commission (UGC) under section 2(f) & 12(B) under Act, 1956.

It is re-accredited by National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) with "A" Grade (CGPA Score 3.83 on a 4 Point Scale in 2nd Cycle) on 5th January 2013.

It is one of the premier colleges established to impart & provide in the field of higher education for the deserving candidates and prove to be a milestone in the part of progress.

The aim of the college was to building up an educated society, ensuring women emancipation, imbibing values and ethics.

The college was founded by Mahatma Hansraj in 1927 in Lahore, Pakistan. After the partition of Indian and Pakistan, the school moved to Jalandhar in the year 1948.

Dr. Sarvapalli Radhakrishanan himself an enlightened soul, the then Vice President of India inaugurated the present core block of college on 7th November 1959.

It was a woman self-financed Institute, provided a regular course in which is located in the urban part of Jalandhar played a pioneering role in the field of higher education.

The college conferred the status of grant-in-aid college that the fees and all the facilities for the students are fixed by the government. The student's admission is done as per the Admission Criteria prescribed by the Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar.

This college has conferred as the status as "College with Potential for Excellence (CPE)" as the best college by their Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar.

The college also received the numbers of achievements awards in the field of education, sports and curricular activities under Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar.

The college offers three years undergraduate courses in Bachelor of Arts, Management, Science, and Commerce streams and offers two years of post-graduate in Arts, Management, Science, and Commerce streams with various specializations under Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar. It also offers Post Graduate Diploma, Add-On Certificate courses.
