H.M.Patel Institute of English Training and Research was established in 1965.

It is affiliated to Sardar Patel University (SPU).

The college is managed by under the name of Shri H.M. Patel.

The institute serves as the Institution of Advanced Studies in Education (English). It has designed and published numerous print material, multi-media packages, audio and video material and teaching aids.

It is noteworthy that the institute is one of the few in the country that have been entrusted by the ministry for Human Resource Development to conduct inservice training programs for teachers and teacher-educators and that the Central Institute of English and Foreign Languages recognises it as a centre to undertake research in English.
