Gyanpeeth Degree College, Nikashi was established in 1993. It is one of the premier co-educational institution of higher education, located at Nikashi in the Indo-Bhutan border area of Baksa district under B.T.A.D., Assam.

The college is affiliated to Gauhati University, Guwahati and recognized by the University Grants Commission under section 2(f) & 12(B) Act, 1956.

Brief History:

The college was established by the general public of the locality with the sacred aim of fulfilling the dreams of higher education of the aspiring students in particular and the society in general.

The college has been playing a pivotal role in imparting higher education in Arts stream since its inception in 1993. Back to part, a public meeting held in 1991 constituted a strong Governing Body comprising Sri Dayananda Bhandary as its president and Late Prasanna Sarma as secretary for performing preliminary functions.

Thus, the Gyanpeeth Degree College came into being in 1993 as a result of the relentless and untiring efforts of all the members of the Governing Body and the pioneering zeal and enthusiasm of the local public as well.

Gyanpeeth Degree College is the only Gauhati University affiliated college in this educationally backward area for the development of education. It is a matter of pride that the college has acquired all necessary requirements under Gauhati University and has been included in the list of colleges prepared under Section2(F) and 12(B) of the UGC Act, 1956.

On 1st January, 2009 is the proud day for college as it came under Deficit System of Grant-in-Aid under BTC administration.

The college at present has been imparting higher education to over 300 students with an efficient and dedicated teaching staff under supervision of a strict administration.

The prospectus gives information on the B.A. courses available at the college. The college has endeavored to select the courses which are relevant to the needs of technology-based modern society which looks for corporate leadership and managerial ability.

The college offers three years Degree Courses in Arts stream under Gauhati University, Guwahati and also offers some self-financing courses.
