Guskara Mahavidyalaya (GM), Guskara was established in 1965. Guskara Mahavidyalaya is affiliated to the University of Burdwan and accredited by NAAC by ‘B+’ grade.

The college offers undergraduate course in Arts, Science and Commerce.

The vision of Guskara Mahavidyalaya is to emerge as one of the leading academic institutions in the region where knowledge and skill complement each other and competence leads to confidence among the students.

The college mission has got three distinct inherent components providing quality teaching, meaningful and effective interaction with all aspects of social life where knowledge, analysis and creativity are called for and development of close links with different agencies which are interested in applying science, technology and social study in relevant areas to upgrade the standard of living of all concerned. The college campus, covering an area of 7.3 acres was donated by Guskara Purnananda Public Institution. It is situated close to the banks of the river Kunur.

Thanks to the missionary zeal of the eminent academician late Rakhahari Bakshi and generous support from the prominent citizens of the locality, Gushkara Mahavidyalaya was founded on the 9th August, 1965. The college campus, covering an area of 7.3 acres was donated by Gushkara Purnananda Publich Institution. It is situated close to the banks of the river Kunur.

Gushkara, Galsi, Mongalkote, Ausgram and Bhatar constitute the catchments area of the college. By virtue of road and rail communications, a large number of students from such far-flung areas as Chittaranjan, Asansol, Durgapur Katwa, Kalna, Memari, Bolpur and Arambag block to the college for pursuing their studies leading a Bachelor's degree in various disciplines.

Bringing the fruits of higher education to an agrarian belt has been a primary aim of the college since its inception. No wonder then that a sizeabke section of the students of the college are first generation learner belonging to scheduled caste, scheduled tribe and minority (Muslim) communities.

Gushkara Mahavidhyalaya is affiliated to the University of Burdwan. The college offers undergraduate course in Arts, Science and commerce. At present there is provisionfor teaching sixteen subjects out of which fourteen are at the Honours level and the rest are at the level of General Course.
