About Guru Nanak Girls College, Yamuna Nagar

Guru Nanak Girls College, Yamuna Nagar (Haryana) was established on 11th February 1973 by a great visionary Sant Pandit Nischal Singh Ji Maharaj with a vision to impart meaningful education exclusively to the girls of the area.

It is one of the premier institutions established to impart & provide in the field of higher education for the deserving candidates and prove to be a milestone in the part of progress.

The college is affiliated to Kurukshetra University, Kurukshetra and recognized by University Grants Commission (UGC) under section 2(f) & 12(B) on 23rd November 1974 under Act, 1956.

It is re-accredited by National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) with "A" Grade - (CGPA Score 3.10 on a 4 Point Scale in 2nd Cycle) on 19th February 2016.

Presently the college has acquired the status of a premier Post Graduate multi-faculty institution, affiliated with Kurukshetra University, Kurukshetra, providing quality education to approximately 3000 students.

The college offers 39 courses at Bachelors level and 14 courses at the level of Masters Degree. In addition to that, the college offers 9 career oriented courses under UGC scheme of Add-on courses.

This year under the Community College Scheme the college offers Diploma courses have been introduced for 10+2 students with the financial assistance from UGC.

  • They have always made an earnest effort to locate the concept of education in the broader framework of the missionary vision of the college with its focus on the spiritual dimensions of life

  • By showing them a way out of the dismal abyss of ignorance through education, Guru Nanak Girls College moves ahead with an avowed aim to prepare women for the challenges of the competitive world where they aspire for the stars yet remain grounded

Objectives:

  • To impart quality education in various streams and to cater to the need of skill-based learning through vocational courses
  • To inculcate amongst students the values of tolerance, equality, selfless service (SEWA) and charity.  To foreground the need and value of ethics so as to instill a sense of social responsibility and true success amongst students
  • To sensitize the students about the current social concerns, human rights, communal harmony and environmental conservation
  • To enable women to access and acquire the wealth of education by removing obstacles from their path so that the dearth of opportunities does not mar their success stories
  • To create intellectually sharp, professionally competent and ethically strong individuals who become an asset to the society
  • The college has a magnificent four-storey building that comprises of fully furnished and ventilated rooms, nine smart classrooms, air-conditioned auditorium, well-equipped laboratories, well stocked and computerized library with open shelf system, fully computerized Administrative Block and well furnished Seminar Hall with audio visual facilities
  • The college provides a very congenial atmosphere for academic and other co-curricular activities
  • The college has separate individual departments for all subjects with young, dynamic faculty and non-teaching staff and with good results
  • The college has the most eminent Faculty members and they are really well qualified, experienced and truly committed towards enhancement and development of the students
  • A sufficient number of classrooms with varying sizes are made available for the smooth conduct of different classes in the college
  • The college has a library with a good number of books (both text and reference) on various subjects to meet the needs of the students as well as the teachers with reading room facility. Daily Newspapers and selected journals are also regularly subscribed
  • The college has a book bank for helping the poor and backward class students
  • State of the Art Laboratories with sufficient space and all the necessary equipment are made available to various departments
  • The college has taken up the responsibility of imparting necessary, effective and practical education to the students so that they can reach great heights and attain maximum achievements in their life
  • The college has established an Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) on 25th August 2010 to assure the quality of the college and also details regarding submission of Annual Quality Assurance Reports (AQAR) to NAAC annually
  • The college runs a canteen inside the campus where staff and students can have meals and snacks prepared in a hygienic manner and at an affordable cost
  • Internet & Wi-Fi facilities may be availed by the students and teachers as per their needs
  • A fleet of ten buses is available for students within a radius of 50 km's.
  • The college has a significant presence in the field of research. A number of major & minor research projects are awarded to the faculty members by the UGC and other bodies.
  • The college also has a hostel with providing all the facilities, security and good atmosphere, best suited for studies of the boys & girls coming from far-off places.
  • The college has a large playground with will-equipment for different sports like Cricket, Football, Volleyball, Hockey, Badminton and so on
  • A medical facility has been available in the college for the benefit of the students
  • State Government and Central Government offers a number of scholarships to the meritorious students and the students belonging to SC / ST / OBC
  • A special complaint cell (Sexual Harassment Cell) has been formed for the female students in the college. Students can directly complain orally or by written application to the head of the cell. Apart from this, Ragging is strictly prohibited on the college campus
  • The institution has provided ICT facilities like computers, projectors, audio-visual gadgets, scanners and printers to the departments and also other aids and a huge number of availability of books for effective delivery of curriculum and for inculcating the knowledge of the subject.
  • To sharpen the skill of students and their personality development, various curricular and extra-curricular activities are the regular features of the institution.
  • The college also organizes workshops, seminars, and conferences for improving teaching skills and methodology.
  • The college also provides NCC training to its students. The NCC cadets attend different camps and earn pride for themselves and for the college
  • The college Unit NSS Wing performs different type of social services within and outside of the area
  • The college consists Women Cell to help female students. This cell helps and guides girls to sort out from their personal problem and avoid them from any harassment
