Guru Nanak College for Women, Banga (Dist. Shahid Bhagat Singh Nagar) was established on 1st July 1969 on the occasion of the quincentenary year of Guru Nanak Dev Ji.

The college is affiliated with Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar formerly affiliated with Punjab University, Chandigarh and it is recognized by the University Grants Commission (UGC) under section 2(f) & 12(B) on 20th November 1970 under Act, 1956.

It is re-accredited by National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) with "B" Grade (CGPA Score 2.59 on a 4 Point  Scale in 2nd Cycle) on 16th September 2016.

It is one of the premier colleges established to impart & provide in the field of higher education for the deserving candidates and prove to be a milestone in the part of progress.

The aim of the college was to develop a strong and disciplined mind, increase woman empowerment and try to re-discover the moral and spiritual values that have lost in the chaos and turmoil of the modern world.

It was a woman self-financed Institute, provided a regular course in which is located in the semi-urban part of Shahid Bhagat Singh Nagar played a pioneering role in the field of higher education.

The college conferred the status of grant-in-aid college that the fees and all the facilities for the students are fixed by the government. The student's admission is done as per the Admission Criteria prescribed by the Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar.

The college also received the numbers of achievements awards in the field of education, sports and curricular activities under Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar.

The college offers three years undergraduate courses in Bachelor of Arts, Science, Management, and Commerce streams and offers two years of post-graduation in Arts and Science streams with various specializations under Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar. It also offers Diploma and Post Graduate Diploma courses.
