About Guru Gobind Singh College for Women

Guru Gobind Singh College for Women was established in 1973 by the Sikh Educational Society to empower young women with quality education to face the chaninging world. The institution has been working towards preparing students to lead a wholesome life, by inculcating human qualities as well as abilities to emerge as smart, confident, strong, informed and responsible citizens of the globalised world. Inspire by the teaching of the sikh gurus, the College has been progressing steadfastly towards achieveing its mission of creating balanced minds were knowledge is teamed with ethical thinking.

Catering to the all-round development of its students, the College fosters in the young minds the spirit of healthy nationalism, secularism, social responsibility, moral uprightness, feelings of compassion and love, care for environment, and above all a life of service and sacrifice are exemplified by Guru Gobind Singh Ji. Ranked as one of the pre-eminent institutions of the region, the College is affiliated to Panjab University and is NAAC reaccredited.

In the last four decades of its existence, the College has made utmost endeavors to train individuals to become responsible citizens of the globalized world. The College fully realizes its responsibility in equipping the students with adequate competencies to emerge as successful professionals, entrepreneurs, leaders, administrators, etc. Through various activities such as debates, declamations, creative writing workshops, seminars, talks, brain stroming sessions, etc. The students are given exposure to build robust confidence and self-esteem. To stir and motivate under performing students, the College provides remedial classes. The advanced learners are motivated to attain excellence in the University examination through various incentive schemes such as scholarships, fee concessions, Roll of Honor and Prizes (Academics / Co-curriculur / Sports).

The College fosters the spirit of healthy nationalism, social responsibility, moral uprightness, feelings of compassion and love, and above all a life of service and sacrifice as exemplified by Guru Gobind Singh Ji, in it's students.

The inculcation of these eternal values is achieved through various activities conducted in the College. The College nurtures compassionate disposition and encourages the students to contribute to the alleviation of suffering in a troubled world.

The College is playing a progressive role in transforming the society for the better by holding literacy campaigns, and by developing entrepreneurial skill among women. In its own small way, the College is trying to eliminate social evils, Societal issues are deliberated upon and discussed at various seminars / talks held in the College sometimes in collaboration and external agencies / NGOs. Gender sensitization is one of the prime concerns; the College holds awareness talks and theatrical performances to sensitize the larger audience on gender related issues. The social orientation of the students is made possible through the National Social Scheme and National Cadet Crops Programmes.

The rapid development of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) is now inextricably linked the modern education. The College strongly integrates ICT into the delivery of its educational programmes. There are well equipped computer labs with broadband internet facility and fully automated library. The students play an integral role in various College activities by becoming class respresentatives, members of the Student Council, College Magazine and Alumni Association.

With its impeccable reputation, the College makes ceaseless efforts to enable the students to compete at the highest state and national levels in number of sports. It is commendable that the College has been thrice the winner of the Over-All Inter College Championship of Punjab University, in the recent sessions. The role of the College is to create infrastructure which facilitates optimum efficiency of our sports women for achieving excellence in various competitive events at all levels.

There are various Clubs and Societies that manage academic and cultural activities of the College. Students are encouraged to participate in co-curricular and extra-curriculur activities and are given opportunities to exhibit their innate talents / skills.

The Placement Cell of the College supports students in career choices and helps make job placements in  Industry, banks, call centers, educational institutions, etc. Apart from the other important committees, the College has a Grievance Cell to look into the complaints and grievances of the students. The Counseling Cell Provides necessary guidance and advice to help students succeed in the face of increased competition while maintainng health perspectives.

The remarkable growth and enhanced prestige of the College as a leading educational Institution is owed as much to the inspiration of a visionary and committed Management and the dynamic and progessive leadership of the Principal Dr. Jatinder Kaur as to the institution's strongest asset; the teaching faculty. A dedicated team of highly qualified staff bring to the institution a rich accumulation of knowledge, experience and zeal to inspire the students to achieve their goals. Our students enjoy zestful, thriving and active life on campus on they participate in wide spectrum of student activities throughout the year.

In the future the College plans to introduce new employment oriented courses of students, and update the infrastructure accordingly. Greater focus on the use of technology and innnovative methods of teaching would be employed while retaining the best practices of the past. It is enduring spirit of our students that goads us to set higher standards and reach for higher goals year after year.

To inculcate the right value system with special emphasis on spiritual training in an ambience infused with Sikh tenets.

To foster a sense of physical well being, a key to all creative and intellectual activity.

To equip the students with sound knowledge and skill set, so that they are able to negotiate the complex, diverse and uncertain demands of a constantly changing society.

To ensure the holistic growth of the students wherein they attain a confident personality, a concern for environment and respect for social norms with special emphasis on Human Rights and Gender Issues.
